5 Ways To Drive Safely During Winters
While winters are great to spend time outside, severe weather can make it dangerous. At night, fog settles down and decreases visibility to a large extent. This can be a cause for accidents and damage to life and property.
So here are a few simple tips you can follow for a safe late night winter drive!
1. Avoid using high beam
Using a high beam, while visibility is already low due to fog can be disastrous. So instead drive slow and keep your headlights on low beam so that the person from the opposite direction knows that you’re approaching.
2. Don’t use the car headlights in front of you as a guide
Using the headlights of the car in front of you can narrow down your visibility which might make you miss a necessary turn to reach home. So instead keep your eyes on the road and use your lights as a way to navigate through.
3. Use your windshield wipers while driving
Winter and fog can cause moisture to accumulate on your windshield which may blur your vision of the road and create glare. So use your windshield wipers as many times as required to get the best view of the road.
4. Maintain distance with the car in front of you
While driving in winter, it is important to maintain ample distance between cars in the front and behind you. This will secure not only your car but also others from unnecessarily bumping into each other.
5. Check your mirrors and apply brakes in advance
Suddenly applying brakes may not give enough time to the drivers behind you to stop and may cause an accident. So if you’re planning on applying brakes, start a little earlier to use your brake lights to inform other drivers.
While these easy tips will keep you safe on the roads while driving, you must always be prepared for any unforeseen circumstances.
