What's Covered In Tata AIG Travel Insurance
Here’s what can go wrong with your baggage, and how we have you covered:
Baggage Delay: In case there’s a delay or misdirection of your checked-in baggage by the airline, we will reimburse you The expense of necessary personal effects items so that you can continue with your trip smoothly.
Baggage Loss: If your checked baggage gets lost in Theft or misdirection by the common carrier or also due to non delivery at its destination we will compensate you for your lost belongings. This is only applicable if your entire baggage is lost, and not for damage or partial loss of your belongings.
Here’s what that can go wrong during your journey, and how we have you covered:
Trip Curtailment: Any loss of travel and or accommodation expenses paid in advance by or forfeited by insured after the commencement of the trip Non-refundable unused portion of travel or accommodation costs or additional accommodation and / or travel expenses (excluding telephone costs, meals and beverages)
Trip Cancellation: If your trip has been cancelled due to Sickness, Injury or death to: insured; insured’s Travelling Companion; insured’s Immediate Family Member; or insured’s Travelling Companion‘s Immediate Family Member, prior to the contracted depature date we will pay for the loss of deposit up to the maximum as stated in the policy.
Missed connection/departure: We will reimburse reasonable additional expenses due to a missed connection or a missed departure caused by your airline carrier on your return journey that is caused due to inclement weather/strike by employees of common carrier/equipment failure
Bounced Hotel or Airline Booking: Benefit payable due to non-availability of accommodation on account of over booking by the hotels or airlines, the insured should have reconfirmed the booking in advance and should have written proof of the same.
Loss of passport: In case your passport is stolen or misplaced, assisting the insured by contacting appropriate authorities and provide directions for replacement
Home burglary: Loss and Damage caused by burglary or attempted burglary to the contents of the home. No benefit is payable if the House is unoccupied for more than 90 days
Hijack: Distress allowance if insured’s common carrier has been hijacked
Trip delay: Coverage for additional expenses if insured trip is delayed for more than 12 hours due to inclement weather, strike with common carrier or equipment failure of the common carrier
Personal liability: Covers damages for claims legally filed on insured against property damage and medical expenses to others as a result of bodily injury caused by insured in an accident
Fraudulent charges: If payment card as specified in the schedule is lost or stolen, we will reimburse the unauthorized charges up to 12 / hours prior to the first reporting the event to the payment card issuer(s).
Automatic extension of policy up to 7 days: Automatic extension of the period of insurance is granted up to a period of 7 days, from the policy expiry date, if the extension is necessary, due to delay by the Scheduled Airlines, which is beyond the control of the Insured, and no alternative air transportation is made available to the Insured.
Here’s what can go wrong with your health while travelling, and how we have you covered:
Accident & Sickness Medical Expenses: Medical expenses are reimbursed subject to the deductibles and up to a maximum amount per disease / illness / injury sum insured, as mentioned in the Policy Schedule or the Schedule of Benefits. Emergency medical evacuation: When, in the opinion of the Assistance Company's medical panel, it is judged medically appropriate to move You to another location for better treatment or return You to India, the Assistance Company will arrange the evacuation. Sickness Dental Expenses-
- If the insurer requires immediate dental treatment during his insured journey, Tata AIG will pay reasonable and customary charges for such treatment subject to the deductibles shown in the Policy Schedule.
- Dental benefits will include teeth filling or surgical treatment, services or supplies subject to per tooth and per occurrence up to the maximum amounts as shown in the Policy Schedule.
- Dental benefits shall be limited to treatment sustained to sound natural teeth.
- Covered emergency dental expenses’ refer to the dental expenses incurred during the insured journey and within 30 days of the first treatment.
Accidental Death And Dismemberment: If the insured is injured during an insured journey and the accident leads to disablement, Tata AIG will pay a percentage of the principal sum insured as shown in the Policy Schedule.
- The loss must occur within 365 Days from the date of the accident which caused injury.
- If more than one loss results from any one Accident, only one amount, the largest, will be paid.
- Repatriation expenses:* In case of insured's person’s demise, necessary arrangements are made to carry his remains to India. The date of demise should be within the contract dates of the policy as mentioned in the Service Agreement.
What's Not Covered
Here are some situations in which lost or delayed baggage will not be covered:
Shipped baggage: If baggage that you had sent in advance has been misplaced or if there’s a loss of souvenirs or articles that you mailed or shipped directly, we can’t cover that.
Baggage delay in India: In case your baggage is delayed while you’re in India, while leaving for your trip or while returning, that won’t be covered.
Electronics and money: If you lose electronic items such as phones, camcorders, laptops, hearing aids, etc. or money, credit cards, debit cards, traveller's cheques, and other securities, we will be unable to cover them.
Here are some situations that we cannot cover you for during your journey:
Breach of law In case you lose your passport due to delay or from confiscation or detention by customs, police, or other authority, we will not be able to help you in such a situation.
Failure to report theft If you fail to report and obtain an official report for the theft of your passport from the appropriate police authority within 24 hours of realising that it’s missing, we can’t cover loss of passport.
Civil war and unrest Any loss arising due to war, civil war, invasion, revolution, insurrection, rebellion, mutiny, an act of a foreign enemy, hostilities, or use of military power in usurping a government will not be covered.
Nuclear reaction Any damage or loss related to nuclear reaction, radiation, radioactive contamination, or the dispersal or application of pathogenic or poisonous biological/chemical materials will not be covered.
Aircraft operations Any damage or loss arising from the insured operating or learning to operate any aircraft or performing duties as a member of the crew on any aircraft will not be covered.
Here are some situations in which we cannot cover your medical expenses:
Travelling against the doctor’s orders If you travel against your doctor’s advice, we will not be able to cover you for any medical emergencies that arise.
Pre-existing conditions Treatment required for a pre-existing condition, or any complication arising from them will not be covered.
Army service Any injuries suffered while serving in the armed forces of any country are not covered.
Adventure sports Injuries sustained while indulging in adventure sports such as skydiving, scuba diving, mountain climbing, etc. are not covered.
Self-inflicted injuries and STDs In the event of suicide, self-inflicted injury, sexually transmitted diseases, mental or nervous disorders, and HIV/AIDS, your medical expenses won’t be covered.
Consumption of substances Treatment for injuries sustained under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants or hallucinogens (except when prescribed by a physician) is not covered.

What is the free-look period in travel insurance?
The ‘free-look’ period in travel insurance implies that the buyer gets a specified number of days to review the terms and conditions of the plan. Tata AIG Travel Insurance plans come with a free-look period of 15 days for the multi-trip policy. However, the single-trip policy does not come with a free-look period.
What is evacuation and reparation coverage?
Evacuation and reparation coverage under travel insurance extends the facilities for medical evacuation in the event of a medical emergency. It comes with facilities such as medically equipped return flights and the reparation of mortal remains back to the family in the event of death.
My trip got cancelled for personal reasons, but I had already bought travel insurance. Can I get a refund?
Yes, you can cancel your travel insurance policy at any time for whatever reason before the policy start date. A cancellation charge of Rs 200 will be deducted, and the remaining amount will be refunded to you.
