Tourist Visa: The immigration authorities in the Maldives offer a tourist visa on arrival to all foreign nationals visiting the country. Therefore, if you are visiting the archipelago for a vacation, there is no necessity to apply for a pre-approved visa. Indian nationals travelling to the island nation are eligible for a tourist visa on arrival that is valid for 30 days.

Here are the other categories of visas available for foreign nationals visiting the Maldives.

• Work Visa: If you are travelling to the Maldives for work, you are eligible for a 15-day visa on arrival, provided you have a valid work permit issued by the Ministry of Economic Development of the Maldives that does not exceed 90 days from the issuing date. The application for a work permit and visa has to be submitted by your employer and said application can be submitted online.

• Marriage Visa: A foreign national who is married to a citizen of the Maldives or travelling there to marry one is eligible to be sponsored with a visa for arriving in the country. A Sponsorship Declaration needs to be submitted here which is the digital immigration portal for the Maldives. The concerned visitor must get legally married in the Maldives and apply for a Marriage Visa within 30 days of their arrival. If the foreign national already resides in the Maldives, their existing visa needs to be converted into a marriage visa post-marriage to a Maldivian.

• Dependent Visa: The Maldives also issues a dependent visa to foreign nationals on the submission of the documents mentioned below.

1. An application for the extension of permit
2. A passport valid for at least six months and equipped with a Machine Readable Zone (MRZ)
3. A recent passport-sized photograph
4. A dependent visa card fee of 50 Maldivian Rufiyaa
5. A dependent visa fee of 750 Maldivian Rufiyaa for three months
6. The copy of the employment approval or the visa card of the foreign national having a work visa in the Maldives, sponsoring their dependent
7. The proof of the dependent status of the applicant, namely a marriage certificate or a birth certificate
8. A letter from the relevant embassy detailing the requirement of a dependent visa, particularly in the case of a parent of the work visa holder
9. The medical health screening report of the work visa holder
10. Yellow fever vaccination, if applicable

It is mandatory for all visitors to the Maldives to fulfil the following entry requirements.

• A passport valid for at least six months and equipped with a Machine Readable Zone (MRZ)
• A recent passport-sized photograph
• Proof of confirmed hotel reservations
• A confirmed return ticket or a ticket to another destination
• In case of an onward journey, a valid visa for the concerned country
• Your bank statement for three months prior to your arrival in the Maldives

• A Traveller Health Declaration to be filled by all visitors to the Maldives within 24 hours prior to their arrival to the country

Covid-19 guidelines for travelling to the Maldives: All foreign nationals travelling to the Maldives are required to submit a negative RT-PCR test report with their Traveller Health Declaration.
