Safety is one of the primary concerns of every car buyer, and safety and technology go hand-in-hand. The ADAS technology is a bunch of safety features in cars that enhance car and road safety. Earlier, the ADAS car systems were a feature of only luxury cars. However, you can now enjoy these safety features in some mass-market segment four-wheelers. Another essential aspect of car and road safety is a car insurance policy. Insurance for four-wheelers in India is mandatory by law. It is also necessary to financially protect the vehicle, the car owner, and other third parties involved in a mishap.

What is ADAS in Cars?

ADAS, or Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, are a collection of safety features that add to the car driver’s safety. The ADAS system in cars uses a human-machine interface to empower the driver to react promptly when there is a danger on the road. The ADAS system also gives various alerts to the driver, like sounds, vibrations, and pictographs, which greatly assist when you are behind the wheel.

The AI-powered algorithms of the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems work in real-time and protect the four-wheeler driver against probable accidents. The technology uses several applications and notifies car drivers about incidents such as oncoming traffic signs, people walking too close by, deviating from the lane, etc.

Features of ADAS in Cars

ADAS systems have several features, which vary from car to car, depending upon the make and model of the vehicle. However, some standard features of the ADAS technology are:

- Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM): This feature detects other vehicles that the driver may not know as they fall in his blind spot. It also alerts the driver when it is unsafe to switch lanes while driving.

- Lane Departure Warning (LDW): When the vehicle moves out of its lane, this safety feature warns the driver.

- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC): You can now find cars with adaptive cruise control in India. This feature uses sensors to calculate the speed and distance of other vehicles ahead on the road and adjusts the car’s speed correspondingly.

- Forward Collision Warning (FCW): This helpful feature detects when your car is getting too close to the vehicle ahead of you and notifies you to take evasive action.

- Traffic Sign Recognition: This feature uses a camera to identify and show traffic signs, such as speed limit.

- Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB): This potentially life-saving feature detects a collision that is about to happen and applies emergency brakes automatically to avoid or reduce the impact.

- High Beam Assistant: This feature can be of great use when you are driving on highways, especially during night hours. Under this feature, your car automatically switches to a low beam when its cameras and sensors detect on-coming traffic from the opposite direction and return to a high beam when required.

- Rear Cross Traffic Alert: This feature makes parking your vehicle convenient by detecting the movement of another vehicle at the rear end.

- Driver Drowsiness Detection: This advanced feature reads the driver’s behaviour and alerts him if he shows any signs of drowsiness.
