Inclusions and Exclusions of the GMC Policy

Inclusions in the GMC Policy

  • Hospital Stays and Treatment: If an employee needs to be hospitalised for 24 hours or more due to an illness or injury, the GMC medical policy covers treatment and hospital expenses.

  • Pre and Post-Hospitalisation Charges: Doctor visits, tests, scans, and medicines taken before admission or after discharge are covered, provided they fall within the policy’s defined time period.

  • Day Care Procedures: The policy also covers charges for daycare procedures that do not require an overnight hospital stay. Examples: cataract surgery, chemotherapy, dialysis, etc.

  • Pre-Existing Diseases: The policy recognises pre-existing diseases. Hence, employees can obtain coverage for the treatment of the same.

  • Treatment at Home: When hospitalisation is not possible or advised, treatment taken at home for more than three days can be covered. However, tube feeding and end-of-life care are not included.

  • Organ Transplant Support: The coverage also includes organ surgical and medical expenses related to organ transplant if the insured is the organ recipient.

  • Ambulance Services: Emergency ambulance charges or transfers to another hospital for better treatment are covered when required.

  • Maternity Benefits: Expenses related to childbirth, pregnancy termination, and newborn care are covered. Ectopic pregnancies are not included under maternity benefits, but may be claimed under hospitalisation.

  • Travel Support for Family: If an employee is hospitalised more than 200 km away from home, the policy covers travel expenses for one immediate family member.

Exclusions in the GMC Policy

  • Investigation and Evaluation: Diagnostic tests and evaluations not linked to an active treatment or hospitalisation are not covered.

  • Rest and Respite Care: Expenses related to bed rest or long-term care for incurable or chronic conditions are excluded.

  • Obesity and Weight Control Treatments: Surgical treatment for obesity is not covered unless medically necessary and supported by standard medical guidelines.

  • Gender Change Treatments: Medical procedures and surgeries related to gender reassignment are not covered.

  • Cosmetic and Plastic Surgeries: Cosmetic procedures are excluded unless required for accidents, burns, cancer, or other medical necessity. Dental treatments for cosmetic purposes are also excluded.

  • Addiction-related Treatments: Expenses for treatment related to alcohol, drug, or substance abuse are not covered.

  • Unproven or Experimental Treatments: Any treatment or medication not backed by established medical evidence is excluded.

  • Miscellaneous Exclusions: Treatments for refractive errors, injuries from adventure sports, expenses arising from unlawful activities, and sterility or infertility treatments are not covered.
