Health concerns you must be aware of this monsoon season

Monsoon is a pleasant season that brings with it rains and outdoor fun! However, it can easily be a very demanding season as it also brings with it a few health concerns. But keeping yourself and your family safe is a matter of understanding the dangers and planning well for it. After all, nothing should stop you from enjoying the amazing weather. So, here are a few health concerns and tips you should be aware of this monsoon.

Mosquito-Borne

Diseases: Did you know that mosquitoes claim more lives worldwide than any other animal? They carry deadly diseases like malaria, dengue, chikungunya amongst others. Use mosquito nets and apply mosquito repellents regularly to prevent contact. Also, since mosquitoes breed in stagnant water, make sure not to have any around your house. Remember, it only takes one bite from a mosquito to transfer dangerous pathogens in your body. Hence, you must be vigilant!

Fungal Infections

You might want to play around in the rain water but be very careful, it can lead to fungal infections. Avoid wearing tight socks and make sure you change it every day. You should also avoid walking bare foot on the ground and in puddles. The easiest way to keep infections away is to keep your feet dry and clean.

Typhoid

It is a water borne disease that is mostly caused due to poor sanitation. While it is very important to stay hydrated, make sure you consume water from clean and trusted sources only. Also cut down on street food that might be prepared in contaminated water. Make sure you consume filtered, boiled, or mineral water and use hand sanitiser before eating to avoid getting Typhoid.

Stomach Infections

If you’re fond of street food, monsoons aren’t the time to indulge. Pollution of water and raw vegetables is common during the monsoon. You can easily fall ill from contaminants and upset your stomach severely. Vomiting, diarrhoea, and stomach ache are some of the most common infections in monsoon. Choose to eat home-cooked food or food that you know is prepared in hygienic conditions.

Viral Fever

While fevers are something seen all year round, its instances are especially high during monsoon. Avoid visiting crowded places and if you do have to, cover your mouth. If your socks or clothes get wet, change them as soon as possible. Some of the common symptoms of viral fever are cold and cough. To avoid passing it on to others, always cover your mouth while sneezing.

Bug Bites

Bugs also see an explosion to their numbers in monsoon. Numerous insects have painful bites that can infect or trigger nascent allergies. To avoid such bites, try to stay away from bushes and such places where insects dwell. If you do get bit, treat it immediately with water and specific ointments. If the itch or pain persists, consult a physician immediately.

The season of monsoon is meant to be enjoyed. While you keep these precautions in mind, also prepare for any unforeseen events you might not have any control over. Get the right health insurance from Tata AIG to thoroughly enjoy the monsoon worry-free.
