If you earn more than the basic tax exemption limit, i.e. ₹3 lakh per annum, you must file the income tax returns or ITR. It is a mandatory financial exercise you must adhere to.

On successful submission of ITR, you are provided with an ITR acknowledgement receipt, also known as ITR-V. It is a crucial document used for ITR verification, which is the final step of the income tax return filing process.

In this blog, we will discuss how to download ITR acknowledgement online.

What is ITR Acknowledgement and its Significance?

The income tax return acknowledgement receipt or form ITR-V (Income Tax Return Verification) is a single-page document that is provided when you file income tax online without a digital signature. This document is sent to the taxpayers on their registered email address.

Besides, taxpayers can also download this form from the e-Filing website.

Coming to its importance, the IT return acknowledgement receipt is used for completing the income tax filing process. The taxpayers must submit the signed ITR-V form online or to the Income Tax Department CPC in Bengaluru.

How to Download ITR Acknowledgement Online?

Follow the below steps for ITR acknowledgement download PDF:

Step 1: Visit the e-Filing portal of Income Tax and Log in.

Step 2: Go to “e-File” -> “Income Tax Returns” -> “View Filed Returns”. On the next screen, you will be able to see all the ITRs filed by you.

Step 3: Select the assessment year (AY) for which you want the ITR-V form to be downloaded.

Step 4: Click on “Download Form”.

Once done, the form will be downloaded to your device. It will look something like this:

If you don’t remember your login ID for the e-Filing portal, you can still log in using your PAN number and download your IT return acknowledgement form.

Ways to Verify Your Income Tax Return

There are multiple ways to verify your IT returns online. These are mentioned below:

Via Aadhaar OTP: It is the easiest way to verify your IT returns. If you use this option, you will receive an OTP on your registered email or mobile number.

Via Bank Account: To use this verification option, your bank account should be pre-validated. Once this option is selected, an EVC (Electronic Verification Code) will be created and sent to the email address and mobile linked with your bank account.

Via Net Banking: Under this option, you will need your netbanking ID and password for e-verification.

Via Demat Account: This method works in a similar fashion to that of verification via a bank account. An EVC is created and sent to the linked mobile number. You can fill in this EVC to e-verify your IT returns.

In case you wish to verify the IT returns offline, you must download the form and sign it with “blue ink”. Next, keep the signed form in an A4-size envelope and post it to the Centralised Processing Centre (CPC) — Income Tax Department, Bangalore. Note that this must be done within 30 days of filing the IT returns.
