Childbirth and maternity hold a significant place in any family's life as it is when the woman requires proper nutrition, care, and comfort. The condition of new mothers in the country is not very ideal. Maternal healthcare is one of the urgent matters in India, one of the world's most populated countries. The Government of India is trying to change how maternal healthcare is provided by bringing about various healthcare schemes.

One such scheme is the PMMVY - the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana. The PM Matru Vandana scheme was redesigned by the honourable PM of India, Shri Narendra Modi.

The aim of the Pradhan Mantri Yojana for pregnancy programme is to ensure that pregnant women who have lost their jobs due to pregnancy do not have to face nutritional shortages and get the proper care.

Let us get into the PMMVY scheme details.

The PMMVY scheme is based loosely on PM Modi’s scheme for the worship of the mother. The PMMVY was launched in the year 2017 for the provision of compensation to women who lose their jobs due to their pregnancy. The scheme aims to improve nutrition among pregnant women and lactating mothers.
