Travelling overseas for vacation is always exciting. There's a lot to do before you fly to your dream destination. You make multiple plans, chart out an itinerary, do dozens of shopping, buy a reliable travel insurance plan, and wait for your visa to get approved.
We understand from when you apply for a visa until getting it approved, the phase is crucial since visa approvals don't always come through. However, you can check your visa status with your passport number to end this anxiety or at least reduce it.
While you stay positive on your visa to get approved, ensure your international travel insurance is in place. Many might believe that buying travel insurance is a tedious process; hence, avoid opting for it if it is not mandatory.
However, with Tata AIG's International Travel Insurance Plan, purchasing one is hassle-free, quick and affordable. Not just that, our travel insurance claim procedure, too, is convenient and fast.
Applying for a Visa
We all know that to travel internationally, we need a valid passport and a visa if the destination country makes it a mandatory document. Sometimes few countries also offer visa-on-arrival and visa-free entries to Indian nationals.
However, if your country of visit requires a visa to enter, you can apply the same physically or online mode. Physical mode is when you can apply by submitting the required documents to the concerned embassy.
In contrast, you can apply online by visiting the official embassy website of the concerned country.
Steps to apply for a visa through an Embassy
If you wish to follow the traditional paper-based method for applying for your visa, you can follow the below steps:
- Step 1: Download the visa application form from the relevant embassy website.
- Step 2: Fill out and sign the application form.
- Step 3: Submit the form, passport-size photographs, and other required documents to the country's embassy in India.
- Step 4: Make the necessary payment.
- Step 5: You will receive an acknowledgement receipt with the reference number.
Steps to apply for a visa through online mode
Applying for a visa online or e-Visa mode is quick and hassle-free. It saves time and effort and speeds up the entire procedure.
- Step 1: Visit the official embassy website of the concerned country.
- Step 2: Fill in the application form online.
- Step 3: Submit the form online and upload the required documents and photographs.
- Step 4: Make online payment.
- Step 5: You will receive an acknowledgement or reference number. You will receive an electronic copy of your visa to your registered email id.
Check Visa Status Online by Passport Number
As mentioned above, upon submission of your application, you will receive an acknowledgement number. This number is helpful while tracking your visa application status. However, you can still check the status using your passport number if you misplace the number. In addition, the status can be checked online or by calling the authorities.
One of the best and most convenient methods to track your application is to check your visa status by passport number. You can do an online visa check by passport number by following the below steps:
- Visit the online visa portal or the official embassy website of the country where you have applied for the visa.
- Choose the option' Visa Application Status' on the website.
- Enter your passport number and date of birth. Alternatively, you can also put in the acknowledgement number received when submitting your application.
- Enter the captcha code and click on the "Submit" button.
- You can now view the status of your visa application.
While it is possible to do a visa status check by passport number or acknowledgement number, it is equally important to know that the Visa issuing authorities send period status on your registered mobile number, email address, or both. Thus, you must ensure the contact details in the application form are correct and updated.
Furthermore, the status messages are typically shared at various application stages. For example, the messages are shared on submission, processing or reviewing by the authorities, on acceptance or rejection of the application and finally on the visa dispatch.
Importance of Buying a Travel Insurance Plan
Travelling involves a lot of planning. You need to book the tickets, make accommodation arrangements, get your documents in place, pack your bags as per the travel need and so on. However, you usually tend to ignore travel insurance because you don't find it significant enough. Contrary to this belief, travel insurance is indeed one of the crucial elements while travelling.
We list a few reasons that will help you realise its importance and buy travel insurance on your next trip abroad or within the country limits.
Medical expenses: We take precautions to ensure that our trip is smooth and enjoy it to our fullest. However, medical emergencies come unannounced. In such an unfortunate event, your travel insurance plan can safeguard your finances and protect you against the medical costs incurred due to injury or illness while travelling.
Delay or loss of baggage: If your luggage gets lost in transit or is delayed, travel insurance can come to your rescue. Insurance plans compensate a specific amount for buying necessary personal belongings.
Flight delays: Flight delays are a common scenario. But, when this delay is longer, it can get tricky and even impact your future travel plans. Unfortunately, little can be done about the time lost, but with longer delays, the expenses incurred for booking a night stay at a hotel or on meal expenses etc., can be reimbursed by travel insurance.Personal liability: If you unintentionally cause damage to third-party property or injure a person on your international trip, travel insurance can cover you for that.
Travel assistance: On foreign lands, it is always good to know you have assistance and help whenever needed. Many travel insurance companies offer travel assistance during the loss of a passport, loss of baggage, medical emergencies, etc.
Bottom Line
You can track your visa status using a passport number. However, this is only possible if the visa-issuing authority of the country you plan to visit allows you to check your visa status with your passport number. For countries which do not allow so, you can use the acknowledgement number to track your visa status.
