To explore a new country as an Indian citizen, a valid passport is mandatory. The process of getting a passport has two significant steps: passport application form submission and passport application fee payment.

All Indian passports are issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India and the citizens need to pay the passport application fee or the passport renewal fee based on passport service requirements of individuals.

It is essential to understand the different types of passport fees based on different services, requirements, etc. Along with this, one must know the correct ways to make these payments on time to enjoy a hassle-free travel experience around the world.

Understanding Different Types of Passport Fees

There are primarily two different types of schemes for varying passport fees, including standard passport fees and tatkal passport fees in India.

The fee structure division under these two schemes depends on the following factors.

  • New Passport fee

  • Passport Renewal fee

  • Number of pages required for the passport

  • Type of scheme

  • Age of the applicant

  • Type of passport required

  • The main difference between these two schemes is mainly the time taken to process the application and the fee structure. The standard scheme takes more time than Tatkal, making Tatkal passport fees more expensive.

For instance, if you choose the standard scheme for passport renewal, the Indian passport renewal cost will be more economical than the Tatkal passport renewal fees.

To understand this better, let us look at the different passport fees below.
