New Traffic Rules in Delhi

All people riding or driving a vehicle in Delhi must follow the rules and regulations mentioned in the Motor Vehicle Amendment Act 2019. These rules have been implemented in Delhi since 1st September 2019.

- Using the Parivahan Website

• Visit the Parivahan Sewa web portal.

• Select the e-challan option from the ‘Online Services’ dropdown menu.

• Click on the ‘Get Challan Details’ link.

• Enter your e-challan number, vehicle number, or driving licence details.

• The e-challan details will be displayed on the page.

• Proceed with the challan payment with the digital payment method of your preference.

• Once the payment gets processed, you will receive a payment confirmation and the transaction ID. Save them for future reference.

- Using the Tatpar Delhi Police App

• The Union Minister launched the Tatpar Delhi police app to facilitate e-challan payments anytime from anywhere.

• You can download the Tatpar app from Google Play Store or the Apple Store.

• Verify your mobile number and select the e-challan option from the homescreen.

• Enter relevant details, such as type and date of offence, vehicle registration number, e-challan number, etc.

• Make the e-challan payment using the online payment method of your choice.

• Once the payment is successful you will receive a confirmation on your registered mobile number along with the authentication code.

- E-challan Payment Using the Offline Method

• You can pay the e-challan Delhi using any one of the following methods:

• Visit the Delhi traffic police office and submit the necessary documents, like copies of your driving licence, vehicle registration certificate, e-challan, and address and identity proofs. Deposit the e-challan penalty amount in cash and receive the payment receipt.

• Locate a traffic authority with the handheld e-challan device. Use your debit or credit card to make the e-challan payment then and there.

The Delhi Government implemented the odd-even traffic rule in Delhi to rationalise the number of vehicles on Delhi roads at a given point in time.

Under the rule, private vehicles with registration numbers ending in an odd digit can take out their vehicles on the road on odd dates, and vehicles with registration numbers ending in an even digit can take out their vehicles on the road on even dates.

• An individual riding a two-wheeler and his co-passenger must wear a helmet at all times when the vehicle is in motion. Moreover, the helmet should be in proper condition and strapped well.

• More than 2 people are not allowed to ride a two-wheeler together. The person riding the bike can lose balance due to overloading and cause severe injuries to the passengers and other people on the road. It can also attract a fine from the traffic police in Delhi.
