While Punjab was traditionally an agricultural economy, the state’s urbanisation and growth in population over the last few decades has resulted in an increased number of vehicles and a lack of parking facilities.

While there are dedicated areas for parking in public spaces, many people park their vehicles on busy streets or in no-parking zones. These vehicles are levied a no-parking fine in Punjab.

Not parking in the designated areas can result in traffic congestion and has been a major concern for efficient traffic management in the state. Hence, the transport department has designed a wrong parking fine in Punjab to handle this problem.

Parking Rules in Punjab

There are some generic parking rules in India as specified by the New Motor Vehicles Act of 2019. These include:

Be mindful of not parking your vehicle in public areas where others might face inconvenience or your vehicle might obstruct their regular movements

The municipal corporation puts up signs indicating how and when vehicles need to be parked. Ensure that you follow the signs

Here are some places where parking your vehicle without permission is not allowed:

  • No-parking zones

  • Main roads with heavy traffic and/or narrow roads

  • On footpaths

  • In front of a road sign, thereby blocking them from view

  • Near bus stops and entrances of schools or hospitals

  • Near traffic signals or pedestrian crossing zones

Also, in 2018, the Punjab Government notified a new public parking policy discouraging on-street parking for more than three hours in urban areas.

No-Parking Fine in Punjab

Punjab RTO will levy a fine if your vehicle is found parked in a no-parking zone or areas restricted for public parking, as detailed above.

For parking-related violations, the fine for the first offence for all kinds of vehicles is ₹500.

If you are found guilty of the same offence for the second time, the Punjab no-parking fine amount will increase to ₹1,000.

Authorities have been demarking spaces for public parking across the state to reduce the impact of wrongly parked vehicles on the flow of traffic. Failure to comply with the parking rules can result in these fines.

How to Pay a Bike or Car No-Parking Fine?

Earlier, a traffic police officer would hand over a challan to the vehicle owner if it was found parked wrongly or in a no-parking zone. The challan was the document issued for all traffic rule violations.

In recent years, the Indian government has introduced e-challans in many states, including Punjab. If your vehicle violates a parking rule in the state, then you are required to pay the no-parking challan in Punjab within the allotted time.

Step 4: Click ‘Get Detail’.

Importance of Having a Valid Car or Bike Insurance Policy

In India, the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 mandates that all motor vehicles, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers, have at least a third-party liability bike insurance policy.

To ensure legal compliance, make sure that you buy a policy from a reputed insurance provider so that you are assured of maximum support during an emergency.

Conclusion

The Punjab Traffic Police is taking all measures to ensure that its urban centres do not face the traffic-related problems faced by other cities.

Hence, new parking policies and no-parking fines have been introduced to ensure that vehicle owners have responsible parking habits. This can help in the efficient management of traffic in the state.

As a responsible citizen, you need to ensure that you follow all Punjab RTO parking rules and park your vehicle in specified areas. If you have a Ludhiana traffic challan or a challan in any other city in Punjab, then make sure to pay it within the specified time.
