Trip Delay

Travelling with your family and friends is truly enriching. Right from planning your trip to visiting your destination to reaching back home, it is one of the most rewarding adventures you can come across.

Just thinking about going on a trip may get you all excited. Once you decide the trip dates while considering everyone's convenience, you start with planning your trip by working out the itinerary, booking tickets and accommodation, shopping etc. Throughout the process, your excitement level is significantly high, and you eagerly wait for your trip to begin.

Trip Delay Overview

Imagine, while everything is going smooth and you are all-ready with your packing and leave for your trip, suddenly you come to know your trip is delayed due to flight delay or some other reason. That could really suppress all your excitement. And if the trip delay is for a considerable number of hours, all your further plans and interconnecting flights will get delayed too. And due to this delay, you might have to incur a number of additional expenses.

There can be a number of reasons for which your trip might get delayed or cancelled. This might be due to personal reasons, such as loss of passport, getting stuck on your way to departure point due to an accident or traffic, etc., or it might be due to the trip delay caused from your carrier's side.

However, you can be wary of personal issues, but you would have no control over other delays. Below are the reasons due to which your carrier may cause your trip to be delayed:

  • Natural disaster or inclement weather conditions
  • Unannounced strike or job action by the employees of carrier's company
  • Equipment failure of the carrier

If your flight gets delayed due to any of these reasons for a couple of hours, you will have to incur expenses for meals, lodging etc., during the waiting period, despite not being at fault.

Nevertheless, if you are covered under TATA AIG's travel insurance, you need not worry about such trip delays and additional expenses, be it your international or domestic trip. We provide the maximum benefits possible if your trip delay is caused due to any of the hazards covered in the policy document. For further clarity in the context of the coverage of international and domestic trip delay benefits, read about the inclusions and exclusions of travel policy.
