Nepal Visa For Indians

In 1950, the India-Nepal Treaty of Peace and Friendship was signed between the two countries which allowed the free movement of goods and people between them. While citizens from all countries require a Nepal tourist visa, India is the only country that has no such requirement. Indians can enter Nepal without any visa provided they have the right credentials issued by the Indian Government. Hence, Indians don’t need to worry about the Nepal Visa application before visiting the country.

Due to the peace treaty between India and Nepal, there is no requirement for a visa for an Indian citizen to travel to Nepal. Hence, there is no visa on arrival for Indian travellers. This means that you don’t have to budget for the Nepal Visa fees for Indian citizens too. Indians can travel to Nepal using their passport and valid Voter’s ID/Election card. In fact, according to Article 7 of the treaty, Indians can reside in Nepal without any restrictions too.

Since there is no visa for Indian citizens, the Nepalese Immigration Department will want to see a valid document that proves the nationality of Indian travellers.

If you are travelling by air, then you need to submit one of these two documents as proof of your identity:

1. Valid Indian Passport
2. Valid Voter’s ID Card issued by the Election Commission of India

It is important to note that other Government-issued identity documents like Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Driving Licence, etc. are not accepted for travel to Nepal.

You can drive your two or four-wheeler to Nepal from India. You will need the Registration Certificate of your vehicle, a valid driving license, and the necessary permits.

Here are some things that you need to know about the entry of registered vehicles in Nepal:

• Vehicles registered in India are allowed to stay in Nepal for 30 days a year
• When you enter Nepal, you will have to buy a pass for the number of days you intend to stay in the country
• You can tour Nepal for one day without paying any customs duty by obtaining a Day Pass at the border. However, if you opt for a Day Pass, then you must ensure that you return to India on the same day and return the Pass to Nepal Customs
• The charges per day can vary between ₹100 and ₹500 per day depending on the type of vehicle
• In case of any unplanned extension of stay, make sure that you approach the closest Nepal Customs Office and apply for an extension
