Entrepreneurship Skill Development Programme (ESDP)

The ESDP is a flagship initiative by the Ministry of MSME that encourages individuals to pursue self-employment and entrepreneurship. It provides structured entrepreneur training and development programmes to help aspiring entrepreneurs develop the technical, managerial, and business skills required to start, manage, and grow a successful enterprise.

ESDP places special emphasis on empowering youth, women, SC/ST communities, persons with disabilities, ex-servicemen, and individuals from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families by creating opportunities for skill development and business creation.

• Strengthen financial management capabilities by introducing concepts such as budgeting, funding options, cash flow management, and efficient use of financial resources.
• Promote entrepreneurship for economic growth by encouraging self-employment, innovation, and the creation of new job opportunities.

The entrepreneurship skill development programme consists of several modules designed to help aspiring and existing entrepreneurs develop business and management skills. Here are all the modules in the ESDP:

Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme (EAP)

This module introduces participants to the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. It covers business opportunities, enterprise setup, government schemes, funding options, entrepreneurial risks, and the basics of business plan preparation.

Management Development Programme (MDP)

The MDP is designed to strengthen the managerial and organisational capabilities of existing and aspiring entrepreneurs. It helps improve decision-making, resource management, productivity, and overall business performance.

Advanced Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Programme (A-ESDP)

This programme equips MSMEs with advanced technical skills, emerging technologies, and innovative business solutions. It encourages enterprises to adopt modern practices that improve operational efficiency and business growth.

Advanced Management Development Programme (A-MDP)

The A-MDP focuses on enhancing leadership and strategic management skills. It provides advanced management inputs to improve productivity, profitability, and long-term business sustainability.

The Ministry of MSME implements several government entrepreneurship schemes to promote innovation and skill development across the country. These include:

• National Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) Hub: This government scheme for entrepreneurship development supports SC/ST entrepreneurs through capacity building, market access, and financial assistance.

• Programme Planning: Quarterly training calendars are prepared in line with industry needs.
• Approval: The Empowered Committee approves the programme calendar.
• Industry Partnerships: IMCs are organised with industry associations, clusters, and social enterprises.
• Training Delivery: EAPs, ESDPs, and MDPs are conducted based on local requirements.
• Capacity Building: MDPs strengthen the management skills of existing entrepreneurs.
• Stakeholder Support: Government bodies, financial institutions, and industry associations participate in implementation.
• Continuous Training: Six-week ESDPs are scheduled throughout the year.
• Expert Faculty: Experienced academicians, entrepreneurs, and industry experts conduct training sessions.
• Monitoring: A Management Information System (MIS) tracks faculty records, participant feedback, and programme improvements.

The Government has steadily increased funding for the ESDP to expand entrepreneurship training and skill development initiatives.
