Maruti Versa Car Insurance

Launched in 2001 and discontinued around 2009, Maruti Versa is a family-friendly car, known for its spacious interior, extra cargo space and high seating capacity. The people who still own it are mostly used-car buyers or those who appreciate its eight-seat layout, roomy cabin and large luggage space.

Older Maruti Versa cars can face dents, scratches, parking damage and accidents when used for regular city commutes. Finding parts for a discontinued model can also be difficult and expensive. For owners who want to keep their expenses under control, insurance for Maruti Versa can help cover such unexpected repair costs.

That is why TATA AIG Maruti Versa insurance can be a smart choice. Affordable premiums, no salvage deduction and flexible IDV options can help you manage claims better. A wide garage network and cashless repairs also make it easier to get your Versa repaired when needed.

Why Insure Your Maruti Versa?

Third-Party Coverage is a Legal Requirement

Third-party motor insurance is mandatory for every car driven on Indian roads. Driving without valid insurance can lead to a fine of ₹2,000 for the first offence and ₹4,000 for a subsequent offence along with possible imprisonment of up to three months.

Moreover, if your uninsured Maruti Versa hits a pedestrian, another car, a motorcycle, a parked vehicle or roadside property, you may also have to pay the compensation yourself. A Maruti Versa third-party insurance can save you from these legal and financial liabilities.

No-Surprise Repair Bills

A Maruti Versa was built for practical family use and is commonly used for family trips and local travel. But with an older, discontinued model, a parking dent, scrape or minor accident can quickly turn into an unplanned repair expense. Getting the right parts can also be more difficult than with newer Maruti models.

With Maruti Versa car insurance, you can get your eligible accidental damages covered. It can also help avoid paying the full repair bill from your own pocket and can be especially helpful in case of high repair costs.

Access Authorised Maruti Service Centres in Our Network

Maruti has over 6,000 service touchpoints across 3,000+ cities and towns in India. Many of these authorised Maruti service centres are also a part of TATA AIG’s network of 6,300+ cashless network garages, making it easier to access trusted repairs in your area.

With access to dedicated claim handlers and cashless repairs with your Maruti Versa insurance, you can get your car repaired with less paperwork and no upfront costs.

Covers Fire and Natural and Man-Made Disasters

Not every risk to your Maruti Versa comes from driving it, and you cannot control everything that happens to your car. However, you can control the measures you take to protect it from natural and man-made disasters. Heavy rain and flooding can damage the engine, while strong winds or cyclones can send branches and other debris onto your car and crack the windshield or damage the body.

With a Versa four-wheeler insurance plan, you can cover damage from natural disasters such as flood, typhoon, hurricane, storm, tempest, inundation, cyclone, hailstorm, frost, etc.1 It also covers man-made acts such as vandalism, riots, strikes, or terrorist activities.

Covers Theft and Total Loss

Car theft is not unheard of, and your Maruti Versa can also be a victim of it. Even with all the safety measures, it can still be stolen and theft or damage beyond repair can disrupt your family’s commute.

If you buy Maruti Versa insurance from TATA AIG, we cover losses due to burglary, housebreaking or theft,3 where the car cannot be recovered. The same applies for total loss claims, where eligible damages result in repair costs exceeding 75% of your car’s IDV.

Which Maruti Versa Car Insurance Policy Do I Get?

When you compare car insurance plans for a discontinued model like the Maruti Versa, it is important to consider factors like the car’s condition, age, usage and the location where you would mostly use it. With TATA AIG, you get three main four-wheeler insurance options, including comprehensive, third-party and standalone own-damage car insurance plans.

Car Insurance Policy Types We Offer

Comprehensive Car Insurance - Best Overall Fit

This is the best option if you want overall protection for your Maruti Versa. It not only protects your own car but also protects you against liabilities toward third-party damage.

Key Highlights:

  • Helps you meet the mandatory third-party insurance requirement while also covering your Versa against damages like accidents, theft, fire, natural calamities, etc.

  • Can prove to be helpful for discontinued models like the Versa, where replacement of spare parts can be quite expensive and difficult to find.

Third-Party Car Insurance - Best for Low-Value/Older Maruti Versa

Third-party car insurance is a mandatory legal requirement for every car on Indian roads, including your Maruti Versa. It covers your legal liabilities for damage or injury caused to third parties, but not to your Versa.

Key Highlights:

  • Cost-effective insurance option for older cars with a low IDV.

  • Helps you stay legally compliant with insurance needs.

Standalone Own-Damage Car Insurance - Useful in Specific Situations

This is an alternative choice for Maruti Versa insurance if you need own-damage coverage for your car. However, you must have an existing third–party insurance in place to be eligible for this plan.

Key Highlights:

  • Only covers your car without any coverage for third-party liability.

  • A suitable choice for vehicle owners who have an existing third-party coverage and are seeking wider protection.

What is Not Covered?

  • Normal Wear and Tear: Regular ageing, depreciation, servicing costs, maintenance and wear and tear of parts are not covered under car insurance.

  • Accessories & Modifications After Purchase: Factory-fitted equipment is generally covered as part of the vehicle. If you add an aftermarket CNG/LPG kit or other modifications after purchase, you must declare them to the insurer.

  • Mechanical or Electrical Breakdown: Damage caused by a mechanical or electrical failure, component fault or breakdown is not covered.

  • Consequential Loss: Damage that happens because you continue driving after an accident or warning. For example, engine damage due to waterlogging.

  • War and War-Like Events: Loss or damage caused by war, invasion, mutiny, rebellion or similar events is not covered.

  • Loss or Damage Outside India: Your Maruti Versa insurance policy covers the vehicle within India. Damage or loss outside India is not covered unless specifically permitted.

Maruti Versa Car Insurance Add-On Covers Worth Buying

For the Maruti Versa, most standard car insurance add-ons may not be available today. Since the model was discontinued around 2009, its age can make it ineligible for several add-on covers that insurers usually offer only for newer vehicles.

That does not mean your Maruti Versa gets anything less than the best car insurance. A comprehensive policy can still cover major risks such as accidents, theft, fire, floods, storms and total loss without relying on add-ons.

For an older Versa, the more important decision is therefore choosing the right base cover and setting a suitable Insured Declared Value (IDV). It can be tempting to choose a lower IDV to reduce your Maruti Versa insurance premium, but this can also reduce the amount you receive if the car is stolen or declared a total loss.

For older or discontinued cars, the IDV is decided based on an agreement between you and the insurer.9 So, choose an IDV that reasonably reflects your Versa’s current condition and value rather than focusing only on getting the lowest premium.

  • Claim Settlement: TATA AIG will settle your car insurance claim within 7 days of receiving all the documents through NEFT. The reimbursed amount may be lower than your bill because of deductibles, depreciation and other ineligible damages to your Versa.

Documents Required for Maruti Versa Car Insurance Claim

You will be notified of which documents to submit when you register your claim. If we need additional documents, we will inform you through your registered mobile number, email address, or by post.

  • Duly filled and signed claim form

  • Copy of your car insurance policy

  • Copy of your Versa registration certificate

  • Copy of your driving license

  • Original vehicle keys for theft claim

  • Self-inspection photos and videos of the damage

  • Garage repair estimate

  • Copy of FIR/Police report if needed

  • Identity and address proof

  • Original repair bills and payment receipts

  • No Trace Report for theft claims. The police issue it once the investigation closes without recovering the car, and TATA AIG needs it before settling the claim as a total loss.

  • RTO Forms 28, 29 and 30, for theft and total loss claims only. Once the claim is settled, ownership of the car or its salvage passes to TATA AIG, and these transfer forms complete that handover. Not required for repair claims.

  • Financier NOC, for theft and total loss claims where the car is under an active loan or hypothecation. The settlement goes to the financier first, so the lender's consent is needed before release.

  • Medical bills or documents for applicable personal-accident or third-party injury claims
