Tata Tigor Car Insurance

What do you get when a compact car is given the practicality of a sedan? The Tata Tigor.

Launched in India in 2017, it offers a 419-litre boot, compact dimensions and a 1.2-litre engine, with petrol and CNG options for those seeking an alternative fuel choice. These features make it well suited to families and first-time buyers who use their cars for daily commutes, errands and occasional road trips.

However, regular city driving brings risks such as parking scrapes, pothole damage and minor accidents. Tata Tigor insurance can help cover repair costs, while TATA AIG offers cashless repair options through its 6300+ cashless garage network, including Tata Motors authorised service centres.

How to Buy & Renew Tata Tigor Insurance Online

How to Buy

  • Enter your Tata Tigor registration number and select ‘Get Price’ at the top of this webpage.

  • Enter your personal and vehicle details to generate a quote. Be precise about your variant and fuel type, as the XT and automatic XTA variants may cost more than the XZ and XZA variants.

  • Review the coverage options and choose add-ons based on how you use your Tigor. Consumables Cover and Engine Secure Cover can also be useful for frequent city driving and monsoon-related risks.

  • Once you have reviewed the Tata Tigor insurance premium and selected your preferred coverage, complete the payment online to purchase the policy.

  • You can also buy Tigor insurance through the TATA AIG mobile app by selecting ‘Buy Policy’.

Important Tip!

You do not have to purchase car insurance through a dealer. When you buy car insurance online, you can compare available coverage, select suitable add-ons and benefit from lower costs by avoiding dealer or intermediary commission charges.

How to Renew

  • Select ‘Renew your existing TATA AIG car policy’ at the top of this webpage to begin the renewal process.

  • Enter your Tata Tigor’s registration number or existing policy number to retrieve your policy details.

  • Review the renewal premium and check the No Claim Bonus carried forward from the previous policy period.

  • Reassess your existing coverage and select relevant add-ons based on your Tigor’s age and usage.

  • Confirm the details and pay the renewal premium online to continue your Tata Tigor insurance cover. Also, renew car insurance online through the TATA AIG mobile app.

Note: If your Tigor insurance has lapsed for more than 90 days after the renewal due date, an inspection may be required before Tata Tigor insurance renewal.

Why Insure Your Tata Tigor?

Third-Party Coverage is a Legal Requirement

Third-party insurance is mandatory under Section 146 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Skip it and Section 196 fines you ₹2,000 for a first offence (up to 3 months' imprisonment on the books), rising to ₹4,000 for a repeat one, on top of any compensation you'd owe a pedestrian, vehicle, or roadside structure you hit.1

To avoid this, you can buy third-party cover as a standalone policy or include it with comprehensive car insurance.

Keep Repair Costs Predictable on Your Tata Tigor

As an active model, the Tigor has current parts and service support. However, regular city driving can expose its bumpers, body panels, and tyres to accidental damage, leading to expenses between ₹50,000 and ₹1 lakh. A comprehensive car insurance policy can help cover these repair costs after an accident, reducing the amount you need to pay from your own pocket.

Two add-ons make this cover go further. Zero Depreciation covers the depreciation on replaced parts,2 and Consumables Cover picks up items like nuts, bolts and lubricants used during a repair that a standard claim does not include.3

Cashless Repairs Without Paying Upfront

With TATA AIG, you won’t have to pay the garage yourself and wait for reimbursement when your Tigor needs repairs. Our 6,300+ garage network includes Tata Motors authorised centres where we settle the bill directly. All you need to do is take your car there for repairs, and we take care of the rest.

And because Tata Motors centres are included, your Tigor gets worked on by people who know the platform. Our pickup and drop-off services also save you a trip, and a dedicated claim handler stays with your case from start to finish.

Covers Fire, Natural & Man-Made Disasters

Your Tigor's comprehensive policy protects it against flood, earthquake, storm, cyclone and fire damage. So a monsoon downpour or a stray fire doesn't leave you covering the repair bill yourself.

Keep in mind, the Tigor sits lower than an SUV with its 170mm clearance, so if your area sees regular waterlogging, standing water can reach the engine faster than you'd expect. For this, we'd recommend adding Engine Secure,4 which covers engine and gearbox damage from water ingress.

And if your Tigor gets stranded in a flood, pairing this with RSA gets it towed out and off the road safely, rather than leaving it stuck until the water recedes.

Covers Theft & Total Loss

Accidents aren’t the only peril to watch out for. Your Tata Tigor, priced between ₹5.7 lakh and ₹9.1 lakh, can be stolen at home, on the roadside, at the office or during travel.

If the car is stolen and remains unrecovered, comprehensive insurance can help cover the loss. The same cover can also protect you if the Tigor is damaged beyond economical repair and qualifies as a total loss. The payout is based on the applicable Insured Declared Value (IDV).

Tata Tigor Insurance -- Which Policy Do I Get?

Car Insurance Policies We Offer

Comprehensive Car Insurance

Comprehensive car insurance offers more expansive protection for your Tata Tigor. Along with third-party liability, it covers eligible damage to the sedan from accidents, theft, fire and natural or man-made disasters. You can also choose add-ons to extend your Tigor’s coverage.

Buy Comprehensive Car Insurance

Third-Party Car Insurance

Meets the legal minimum: covers injury or damage your Tigor causes to others, at the IRDAI-fixed rate for its 1,199cc engine. However, it doesn't cover your own car, so you pay for damage to your car.

Buy Third-Party Car Insurance

Standalone Own-Damage Car Insurance

Ideal if your Tigor already has a valid third-party policy and you only need cover for the car itself. It pays for damage from accidents, theft, fire, floods and other covered events, useful for a Tigor with high city mileage where body panels and suspension take frequent wear.

Buy Own-Damage Car Insurance

Which Policy Do I Buy?

Tata Tigor Usage  Recommended Cover  Why
Family Owner  Comprehensive + NCB Protection6  Maximum protection for family trips, while NCB Protection can help retain your NCB after an eligible claim.
Daily City Commuter  Comprehensive + Roadside Assistance7  Frequent traffic and high-speed roadways can increase the risk of minor accidents and breakdowns.
Highway Driver  Comprehensive + Roadside Assistance  Roadside Assistance can help if a breakdown occurs far from home.
Flood-Prone Area  Comprehensive + Engine Secure8  Waterlogged roads can damage the Tigor's engine and gearbox. Engine Secure provides additional protection for eligible water-ingress damage.
CNG Tigor Owner  Comprehensive + Engine Secure  Adds protection against engine and gearbox damage due to water ingress.
Poor or Pothole-Prone Roads  Comprehensive + Roadside Assistance  Regularly driving over potholes and uneven roads can increase the risk of damage and breakdowns.
Recently Bought Second-Hand Tigor  Comprehensive + Depreciation Reimbursement9  Broader protection can make unexpected repair costs easier to manage after an accident, subject to the add-on's eligibility.
Tigor with Low IDV  Third-Party  If your Tigor has a low IDV and you do not want own-damage cover, third-party insurance can meet the mandatory requirement.

Important Tip!

When choosing between third-party and own-damage cover, consider the financial impact of losing your Tata Tigor. If you could replace the car without a major financial strain, third-party cover may meet your needs. If replacing it would be difficult, consider comprehensive or own-damage cover with an IDV that reflects your car’s value.

Insuring Tata Tigor EV Variants

The Tata Tigor range includes petrol, CNG and electric versions. Tata presents the Tigor EV as a separate electric model under Tata.ev, but is based on the Tigor platform. It comes with a 26 kWh battery and a 55 kW electric motor, making its insurance needs different from the petrol and CNG versions.

How an EV is Rated

Third-party premium for an EV is based on motor power in kW, not engine capacity. The Tigor EV's 55 kW motor falls in the 30–65 kW band, with an annual third-party premium of ₹2,904. Private EVs also receive a 15% discount on the applicable premium. Own-damage pricing considers the battery, motor, electric components and other location and age-related factors.

What Actually Needs Covering on an EV

The Tigor EV’s battery and charging system are key components to protect. TATA AIG’s Electric Surge Secure provides protection against partial, total or constructive total loss from electrical damage, including short circuits, water entering the electrical system, etc.10

Your Battery Warranty is Not Your Insurance

The Tigor EV's battery and motor warranty is 8 years or 1,60,000 km, whichever comes first. The warranty covers manufacturing defects and degradation, while Tata Tigor car insurance covers accidental damage to the car and its components. Neither replaces the other.

EV Repairs and the Network

High-voltage repairs need properly equipped workshops. TATA AIG's cashless network includes Tata Motors authorised centres that can do this work.

Tata Tigor Car Insurance Add-On Covers Worth Buying

Tata launched the Tigor in India on 29 March 2017, and it remains an active model. However, some older models may not be eligible for certain add-ons like Return to Invoice, which is eligible for 5 years old. However, TATA AIG lists Depreciation Reimbursement, Engine Secure, Consumables Cover and NCB Protection for cars up to 10 years old or more. Other add-ons may have different eligibility limits.

Depreciation Reimbursement

The Depreciation Reimbursement add-on is the best general-purpose add-on. Given how often bumpers, headlamps and panels take hits from potholes and tight parking, this pays full replacement value instead of a depreciated one.

Eligibility: Up to 10 years.

Roadside Assistance

Useful for highway trips, long drives or travel to areas with limited roadside support. Roadside Assistance can assist with services such as towing, battery jump-start and emergency fuel.

Eligibility: Up to 15 years.

Engine Secure

The Engine Secure cover is useful during heavy monsoons or waterlogged roads, as it protects against engine and gearbox damage caused by water ingress or oil leakage in Tata Tigor petrol and CNG options.

Eligibility: Up to 10 years.

Consumables Cover

A standard claim payout doesn't include the small items used up during a repair, engine oil, brake oil, lubricants, nuts and bolts, so you end up paying for these out of pocket. Consumables Cover provides compensation for these consumables during an admissible repair.

Eligibility: Up to 10 years.

NCB Protection

Your No Claim Bonus builds up every claim-free year and can knock up to 50% off your own-damage premium, but a single claim normally resets it back to zero. The NCB Protection helps preserve your accumulated NCB after an eligible claim.

This matters most if you drive your Tigor daily in heavy city traffic, where low-speed knocks and minor scrapes are common, and you will have to file at least one claim over the years.

Eligibility: Up to 10 years.

Return to Invoice

This is more relevant for a newer Tigor. The RTI add-on can cover the gap between the IDV and applicable on-road price following an eligible theft or total-loss claim.

Eligibility: Up to 5 years.

Electric Surge Secure

Electric Surge Secure provides additional protection against eligible electrical partial, total or constructive total loss caused by events such as short circuits, arcing, self-heating and electricity leakage, including water entering the electrical system.12

Eligibility: Up to 5 years.

Note: Add-on availability depends on your vehicle's age, variant and TATA AIG's applicable eligibility terms at the time of purchase or renewal.

What IDV Should You Set for Your Tata Tigor?

When insuring your Tata Tigor, IDV is one figure on the policy that deserves particular attention. It represents the maximum amount payable for an eligible theft or total-loss claim. The IDV you choose should reflect your Tigor’s current market value, not a reduced amount to lower the Tata Tigor insurance quote.

The Trade-Off

If You Set IDV…  Your Premium  If the Car is Stolen or Written Off
Low, to save money  Lower  You receive less, and the shortfall is yours to pay.
At fair market value  Accurate  You get enough to actually replace the car.
High, above market value  Higher, and payout is often rejected  Insurer caps the payout at the car's real value anyway.

What's Different on the Tigor EV

The Tigor EV's 26kWh battery makes up a significant part of its value. Keep in mind, its warranty covers specified defects and degradation, while insurance covers eligible accidental damage, theft and total loss, with claims based on the applicable IDV.

This is where getting the IDV right matters more than on a petrol or CNG Tigor. If repair costs ever exceed 75% of the set IDV, insurers classify it as a total loss and settle the claim at IDV instead of repairing it. With the battery making up such a large share of the car's value, that 75% threshold can be reached faster on the EV than on an equivalent ICE car. So, you must set your IDV to reflect the car's real worth to ensure you are properly compensated.

What to Set on a Tata Tigor

Compare Tigor cars of the same year, variant, fuel type and similar mileage to estimate your car's current market value. Tata Tigor in the used market ranges between ₹3.5 lakhs and ₹5 lakhs. Also, ex-fleet Tigor cars with higher mileage may be worth less, so the IDV should reflect their actual condition.

Keep in mind that, if financed, Return to Invoice closes the loan-to-IDV gap, but only for up to five years, so get it if you have a newer car.

The Mistake to Avoid

Don't reduce the IDV simply because your Tigor is older or if you plan to resell. Hold comprehensive at a figure that would actually get you back on the road, or go third-party instead of comprehensive at an IDV too thin to matter. You cannot negotiate IDV at claim time. The figure on your policy is the IDV.

What Affects Your Tata Tigor's Insurance Cost

Your Tata Tigor's insurance premium has two parts: the third-party premium and the own-damage premium. IRDAI regulates the third-party premium, while the own-damage portion changes based on factors such as your Tigor's value, fuel type, location and claims record.

The Fixed Part: Third-Party Premium

Your Variant  Engine/Motor  TP Band  1-Year TP Premium  3-Year TP Premium
Tigor XE / XT / XZ+ (petrol)  1,199cc  1,001–1,500cc  ₹3,416  ₹10,640
Tigor CNG  1,199cc  1,001–1,500cc  ₹3,41613  ₹10,640
Tigor EV  ~55kW motor  30–65kW  ₹2,904 (after IRDAI's 15% EV discount)14  ₹9,044 (after IRDAI's 15% EV discount)15

The Variable Part: Own-Damage Premium

What Moves It  Why It Matters
IDV  This is your maximum payout amount. This is the biggest single lever on your premium.
Factory CNG Kit  A Tigor's CNG kit is factory-fitted and part of the vehicle as delivered, but only if the fuel type on your policy schedule matches your RC. Check this; it's easy to miss.
Variant  Although discontinued, let's consider, as an example, the Tigor JTP is a factory performance trim, not a modification. Insure it as a JTP, not a standard Tigor, or your IDV and parts assumptions will be wrong.
Add-ons  Zero Dep, Engine Secure and RSA each add to the overall premium but shift the real cost off you at claim time.
City of Registration  Your RTO location can affect the own-damage premium.
No Claim Bonus  Directly discounts your own-damage premium, up to 50% after 5 claim free years.
Claim History  Frequent small claims push your premium up and reset your NCB.

What You Can Do

  • An XZ+ Tigor and an entry-level variant can have different IDVs, so don't assume the default quote reflects your car.

  • Check that the fuel type and any applicable accessory details match your RC and policy.16

  • Don't reduce the IDV just to lower the Tata Tigor insurance price. It affects the payout for eligible theft or total-loss claims.

  • If you have a claim-free history, check that your eligible NCB is reflected at renewal. You must also consider getting an NCB Protection add-on to protect your saved NCB.

How to File a Tata Tigor Car Insurance Claim

Cashless Claim

  • After ensuring everyone's safety, inform TATA AIG through 022-6489-8282, general.claims@tataaig.com, WhatsApp at 9136160375, the claims portal or mobile app, or by visiting a branch. We will provide a claim reference number.

  • Use the network garage locator to find a nearby garage. TATA AIG has 6300+ cashless garages, including authorised Tata Motors service centres. Pick-up and drop-off are also available for eligible cashless repairs.

  • A surveyor or video inspection will assess the damage. Wait for the inspection and approval before starting repairs.

  • Once approved, the network garage carries out the eligible repairs. If the surveyor finds additional damage during repairs, it may be reassessed.

  • TATA AIG settles the approved amount directly with the garage. You pay applicable deductibles, depreciation and repair or replacement costs not covered by the policy.

Reimbursement Claim

  • Inform TATA AIG through the same claim channels. Unlike a cashless car insurance claim, pay the repair bill first and then claim the eligible amount from TATA AIG.

  • Have your Tigor inspected and get the required approval before repairs begin. Starting repairs early can affect the assessment.

  • If you are unable to avail repair at a cashless garage, you can use an authorised non-network garage.

  • Provide the required claim form, policy and vehicle documents, original repair invoices and payment receipts. Missing or incomplete documents can delay settlement. TATA AIG assesses the repair bills against your policy coverage, deductibles, depreciation and exclusions.

  • TATA AIG reimburses claims within 7 days of receiving all required documents, with payment made through NEFT. The approved amount may be lower than the repair bill because of depreciation, deductibles, exclusions or other policy conditions.

Note: For a Tata Tigor, the car is available in petrol, CNG and electric versions, so the damage assessment can differ by variant. For the Tigor EV, battery and charging-system damage needs a different assessment from ordinary bodywork.

Documents Required for Tata Tigor Insurance Claim

The documents required for a Tata Tigor insurance claim can vary based on the type of claim and the circumstances of the incident. After you register the claim, TATA AIG will confirm the documents needed and inform you if any additional paperwork is required.

  • Submit the completed and signed claim form.

  • Tata Tigor Registration Certificate (RC).

  • Tata Tigor insurance policy details.

  • Identity and address proofs are required where applicable.

  • Valid driving licence of the person driving the Tigor at the time of the incident.

  • Clear photos or videos of the damage to help with the damage assessment.
