Cuttack Road Tax

Cuttack is the former capital and the second-largest city of Odisha. Because it is a commercial capital, Cuttack boasts a well-maintained road infrastructure that offers smooth connectivity to the rest of Odisha and other neighbouring states.

Every vehicle owner in Cuttack is mandated to pay road taxes to the state government. The government, in turn, uses the revenue generated from these taxes to keep the state's roads and highways in top-notch condition.

In this article, we will discuss everything you need to know about road tax and road tax rate in Cuttack, applicable tax amounts, and how to make road tax online payments in Cuttack.

What is Road Tax?

At the time of purchasing a motor vehicle, you might notice that its price at the showroom or on company brochures is around 10% lower than its on-road price.

The on-road price of any vehicle has three main constituents: the manufacturing price, vehicle registration charges, bike/car insurance, and, most importantly, road tax.

Road tax, or Vahan tax, is a category of taxes levied on the purchase of a new motor vehicle. Imposed by the state and central government, road tax generates revenue for maintaining the roadways.

In India, every individual is mandated to pay road tax as a one-time payment if they use their vehicle for more than a year.

Who Levies Road Tax Cuttack Charges?

In Cuttack, every motor vehicle owner, regardless of the type of vehicle they own, must pay road taxes to the state government of Odisha to maintain the state's road network.

So, as a prospective vehicle buyer in Cuttack, you will be paying road tax to the Odisha government since you intend to live and drive your vehicle within this state.

In case you move to another state, say West Bengal, you will have to pay road tax to the West Bengal government within one month of moving there.

The primary reason why the state government is in charge of collecting road taxes is that the responsibility of building and maintaining roads in the state lies with the State Government.
