Meghalaya Road Tax

Like most states in the northeastern region of India, Meghalaya has dense forests, heavy rainfall, and hilly terrain. This poses a unique topographical challenge to the road infrastructure in the state.

While the drive through the winding roads in the mountains is breathtaking, building and maintaining these roads require a lot of effort and involve huge costs. Add to it the extensive network of rivers in Meghalaya, and the transport department has numerous obstacles to cross to ensure connectivity across the state.

The state government levies road tax in Meghalaya to help manage these costs and ensure that the roads are in optimum condition while building new roads to boost connectivity. If you are living in Meghalaya and own a vehicle, then you will have to register it in the state and pay Meghalaya RTO tax based on the type of vehicle you own and its intended use.
