Travelling to Iran for ordinary passport holders in India has now become seamless. As per the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iran visa requirements for Indian passport holders have been abolished since the 4th of February 2024. However, there are certain conditions for this exemption.

Conditions for Iran Entry Visa Requirements Exemptions

  • Only individuals holding ordinary passports will be permitted to enter Iran without a visa.

  • Only an entry once every six months with a maximum stay of 15 days is permitted.

  • The 15-day period cannot be extended.

  • The exemption is only for Iran’s tourist visa requirements for Indian citizens.

  • Indian passport holders wanting a more extended stay, multiple entries within a six-month period or are travelling for other purposes must obtain the necessary vias through the respective representations of the Islamic Republic of Iran in India.

  • The visa exemption specified here exclusively pertains to Indian nationals entering the country via air border.

As mentioned above, Indian passport holders with an ordinary passport no longer require a visa or an Iran visa on arrival for Indian citizens if the purpose of travel is tourism.

However, that is not the case for employment. All Indian passport holders who have secured employment in the Islamic Republic of Iran are required to obtain a work visa before entering the country.

  • Visa application form.

Note: The passport photo must be scanned in an appropriate quality, a 300 resolution and maximum of 50 KB size is permitted. It must be uploaded to the visa system.
