The Amma two-wheeler scheme was inaugurated in 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to commemorate the birth anniversary of the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalithaa. It aims to empower poor working women by providing them with women-friendly vehicles at subsidised prices.

The key motto of the Amma Two-Wheeler Scheme is “Ease of Use.” Therefore, the vehicles under the scheme are auto-gear or gearless. The scheme is also known as the Pradhan Mantri Amma Scooter Yojana or Amma Bike Scheme which strives to benefit one lakh women in Tamil Nadu.

Under the scheme, there is a 50% subsidy capped at ₹25,000 offered to working women who want to purchase a two-wheeler. The beneficiary has to bear the remaining cost through a loan or other means.

Reservation Under the Amma Two-Wheeler Scheme

The reservation under the Amma two-wheeler scheme is as follows:

  • 21% of the scheme's allocation is reserved for women belonging to Scheduled Castes.

  • 1% of the scheme’s allocation is reserved for women belonging to Scheduled Tribes.

  • 4% of the scheme’s allocation is reserved for differently abled women (across all categories).

Step 1: Stick your passport-sized photograph in the designated space.

Step 2: Fill in the name of your district, block, village panchayat, etc.

Step 3: Furnish your details like name, address, date of birth, father/husband's name, educational qualification and other relevant information.

Step 4: Provide details including the price of the scooter you want to buy. Mention whether you are purchasing the vehicle from your funds or a loan. Also enclose your vehicle’s invoice quotation and details of the bank if taking a loan, etc.

Step 5: You are also required to mention the documents enclosed with the application form.

Step 6: Mention the date and place and do your signature on the application form.

Amma Two-Wheeler Yojana Application for Urban Areas

You can access the Amma two-wheeler scheme application form from the Tamil Nadu Corporation for the Development of Women or the official website. Now follow these steps:

Step 1: Stick your passport-sized photograph in the designated space.

Step 2: Fill in the name of your district, corporation, municipality, town panchayat, ward, etc.

Step 3: Furnish your details like name, date of birth, father/husband's name, educational qualification, address and other relevant information.

Step 4: Provide driving or learner’s licence details and details of the vehicle you wish to buy. You are also required to provide the invoice quotation, bank details if availing a loan, etc.

Step 5: Mention the additional documents like driver or learner’s licence, Aadhaar number, proof of education, community certificate, etc.

Step 6: Mention the date and place and do your signature on the application form.

Subsidy Claim Form for the Amma Two-Wheeler Yojana

The authorities will release the subsidy and deposit it in your bank/loan account upon receiving the registration certificate and completion of verification of the vehicle purchase. Here’s how you can download and fill in the subsidy claim form:**

Step 1: Go to the official website of the Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women to download the form.

Step 2: Furnish your application number, personal information, type of vehicle purchased, date of vehicle manufacture, etc.

Step 3: Also provide the registration number and registration date of the Amma subsidy scooter and your driving licence details. Also, specify whether you have used personal funds or a loan amount to purchase the vehicle. If you have taken a loan, furnish the details of the loan account.

Step 4: Provide your bank details like account number, IFSC code, name and branch of bank and type of account.

Step 5: Now enter your vehicle’s on-road cost and the amount of subsidy.

Specifications of the Vehicle Under the Amma Scooter Yojana

You can purchase any auto-geared or gearless two-wheeler vehicle with the following specifications:

  • The vehicle’s maximum engine capacity should be 125cc.

  • The vehicle must be eligible to be registered under the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988.

  • The two-wheeler must be manufactured on or after 1st January 2018.

  • The two-wheeler must be compliant with the latest emission norms.
