When you decide to purchase a personal vehicle for daily commutes and travel, you often calculate the common costs involved, such as car accessories, fast tags, number plate expenses, car registration charges in Hyderabad, and other car-related costs.

However, Hyderabad road tax payment and the premium of insurance for a four-wheeler or two-wheeler are the mandatory payments required for you to be permitted to travel around Hyderabad without breaking any law.

In this guide, we will explain the nitty-gritty details of Hyderabad's road tax, how it is calculated, and how to complete online road tax payments in Hyderabad.

What is Road Tax?

Similar to other necessary tax payments to comply with the different laws in the country, road tax is a mandatory tax payment imposed on all vehicle owners in Hyderabad and around India as part of government revenue.

This government revenue is collected by the individual state governments of different states to improve the road infrastructure and public facilities for pedestrians and residents.

From road development to traffic management systems and road safety measures, all these services are maintained and improved using the road tax you pay the government.

Who Levies Hyderabad Road Tax Charges?

The Telangana State Government Transport Department imposes the Hyderabad road tax to enhance road safety, reduce traffic congestion, and improve pedestrian convenience and safety.

The Regional Transport Office is responsible for collecting Motor Vehicle (MV) tax in Hyderabad. Failure to comply and pay the tax in a timely manner can attract heavy fines.

Other than the Hyderabad road tax, vehicles above the age of 15 years are also required to pay a green tax annually. For two-wheelers, the green tax amount is ₹1,000, and for four-wheelers, the amount is ₹5,000.

For commercial vehicles, the annual amount of green tax is ₹7,000 for all more than 7 years old.
