Car Insurance Add-On Covers
Car Insurance Add-On Covers
Car insurance is a statutory obligation that every car owner must fulfil. Many motorists opt for comprehensive car insurance, as it provides broader coverage, protecting them against their own damage and third-party liability.
However, this cover may not be sufficient for every car owner. Some motorists may require a wider cover to secure various aspects of their vehicle. This is where add-on covers in insurance play a crucial role.
If you want to find out about add-on covers in motor insurance, their benefits, how to buy them, etc., this page is the right place to be!
What is an Add-On Cover in Car Insurance?
Add-on covers are additional features of an insurance policy that provide coverage to the aspects of the vehicle that are not covered by the base policy. Thus, they help to widen the scope of your motor insurance by providing cover for additional car parts and circumstances.
There are many types of add-on covers in motor insurance, and each provides coverage to a specific part of the car. Thus, it is crucial to choose the right add-on for your vehicle as per your requirements.
Since the TATA AIG add-on covers are not a part of the base plan, each add-on involves a nominal cost. TATA AIG offers various add-on options, ensuring you can get maximum protection for your vehicle.
Types of Add-On Covers in Motor Insurance
Zero Depreciation Cover
Also known as depreciation reimbursement cover, this add-on reimburses you the full claim amount without deducting the depreciation amount from the value of the parts replaced under your own damage claim.
Exclusions:
If parts are not replaced and depreciation is not deducted, the claim will not be considered.
If the vehicle is repaired at any garage which is not a part of our authorised garage network, the claim will not be valid.
Useful for:
New car owners may consider buying this add-on cover to reduce out-of-pocket expenses in the event of an accident.
No Claim Bonus Protection
NCB is a benefit provided by the insurer if you do not make any claim against your vehicle insurance during the policy year. The NCB benefit accumulates for every claim-free year, allowing you to earn a discount of up to 50%. However, if you make a claim, you lose the no-claim bonus discount. But with an NCB protection cover, you can make one own damage claim without losing the NCB benefit.
Useful For:
Those who want to make a small claim without losing the NCB benefit may include this add-on.
Daily Allowance Plus
If the insured vehicle is damaged and is under repair services, this add-on cover provides you compensation in the form of a daily allowance or courtesy car hire.
Daily allowance: The allowance will be paid for the period beginning from the day on which your vehicle reaches the garage for repair or the survey day, whichever is later and will end on the day the vehicle is ready for pickup from the garage. The cover can be availed for 4/6/8/10 days. In case of theft or total loss, the number of days is 15.

---|---|
Mini | ₹1000 |
Compact | ₹ 1200 |
Mid-size | ₹ 1500 |
High end | ₹ 3000 |
MPV SUV | ₹ 2000 |
Courtesy Car Hire: If your vehicle is in repairs, we shall arrange another vehicle for you to commute. However, the car may not be an exact replacement for the insured vehicle and will be made available within 24 hours of receiving the intimation from you. A courtesy car will be provided if the vehicle repair time is more than 24 hours.
The following options are available under the courtesy car:
Lesser of 8 hrs/80 km per day
Lesser of 10 hrs/100 km per day
Lesser of 12 hrs/120 km per day
If you do not wish to avail yourself of a courtesy car or daily allowance, we shall pay you the transportation expenses mentioned in the policy schedule.

Choosing Car Insurance Add-On Covers
Not every add-on cover is suitable for all vehicle owners. Besides, add-on covers can be included in the insurance plan at an additional cost. Thus, you must consider a few essential factors before selecting an add-on cover.
Assess the Need: Before you choose any add-on cover it is necessary to assess your requirements and specific conditions. For instance, if you stay in disaster-prone areas where there is frequent flooding, then you must choose the engine protection cover.
Cost Consideration: It is crucial to know that car add-on cover comes at an additional cost. The more add-ons you include, the higher your premium will become. Thus, choose only those add-on covers in motor insurance which are necessary and beneficial to you.
