Understanding Re-issue of Passport

The passport re-issue process refers to replacing an expired passport to ensure you can continue travelling without interruption. After issuance, your new passport will have a fresh expiry date, allowing you to plan your travels well in advance without worrying.

Whether your passport has expired, is close to expiration or needs replacing due to damage or loss, this process is essential for keeping your travel documents up to date.

Situations Where Passport Re-issue Process is Necessary

There are various scenarios where the emergency passport re-issue is necessary. These situations are:

Passport is Expired

One of the most common reasons for applying for the passport re-issue process is when your passport has expired. If your passport is approaching its expiration date or has already expired, it no longer serves as a valid travel document.

Without a valid passport, you would not be able to travel internationally or even board flights to certain destinations. To ensure you are always prepared for travel, it is important to carry out the expired passport renewal process.

Lost or Stolen Passport

Another important time to apply for the re-issue of passport process is when your passport is lost or stolen. After all, if your passport is lost, whether stolen, misplaced, or otherwise, it is an invalid document for travel matters.

Besides ruining your plans for a trip, a lost or stolen passport exposes you to the threat of identity theft. So lost passport re-issue should be done as soon as possible to avoid any issues.

Damaged Passport

If your passport is damaged, you will also have to apply for a re-issue. If, for any reason, your passport is torn, water-logged, or otherwise physically damaged in a way that causes it to be unreadable or unusable, you also do not have a valid passport for travel.

Even minor damage can raise concerns at border control, and in some cases, it could prevent you from boarding a flight. To save yourself from such a situation, apply for a re-issue of a passport.

Change of Address or Phone Number

If your address or phone number has changed, you may need to apply for a passport re-issue to update your details. If you have previous contact details on your passport, this could create problems, particularly in an emergency or if authorities need to contact you.

Blank Pages Exhausted

Another reason for applying for the re-issue of passport online is if you have run out of blank pages in your current passport. When all the available pages for visas and stamps are filled, the passport becomes unsuitable for international travel.

Many countries require a minimum number of blank pages at entry or exit stamps, and without them, you might face challenges in immigration. In order to avoid any travel disruptions, one is advised to apply for a re-issue of passport online.

Loss or Damaged Passport

One of the reasons for doing damaged or lost passport re-issue verification is to ensure that there is no identity theft or fraud. The police authorities need to ensure that the person applying for a re-issue is the legitimate holder and not someone trying to misuse the lost passport.

If the applicant wants to change major details in the existing passport, such as date of birth, last name, etc., they need to go through the police verification process. The authority will verify the applicant’s identity with other supporting documents and then issue a clearance certificate.

When the minor turns into an adult, they need to apply for a passport re-issue, and in that situation, they need to undergo a police verification process. This is to ensure that the documents provided by the applicant are legitimate.

Change in Address

If the applicant wants to add the new residential address to the already existing passport, he/she may be asked to undergo the police verification process. The new address and supporting documents are verified by the authorities, after which a clearance certificate is provided by the respective authority.
