What Is A Registration Certificate?
A Registration Certificate (RC) is a document issued by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to your vehicle that serves as proof of registration. It is issued by the RTA Telangana corresponding to the locality within the State or the Union Territory.
The document validates your vehicle's ownership and legal status and should be carried with the vehicle at any time while on transport.
Registration Certificates were provided in the form of RC books previously, and it has been replaced with RC Smart Cards for digitised, faster, and more convenient access.

If you want to sell your vehicle outside the jurisdiction of your RTO, you need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the current Registering Authority.
Automated Online Services In Telangana
The Transport Department, Government Of Telangana, offers Automated Online Services for different types of transactions, such as Transfer of Ownership, Change of Address, Issue of NOC, Duplicate RC, Renewal of RC, RC check for TS, etc.
Here are the steps for registration online:
Navigate to the Transport Department, Government of Telangana web portal.
Read through the guidelines and click on Continue.
Read through the Self Declaration and click on I agree.
Select the Type of Transaction and provide the other necessary details.
Click on OK.
Further, you can also apply for and check for the status of the services availed, such as the Duplicate RC, RC Renewal status Telangana, etc., using the web portal.
You can also change the address in the RC and apply for the Transfer of Ownership and check for the RC transfer status Telangana using the T App Folio mobile application.
Here are the steps to access the registration-related services in the T App Folio:
Download and install the T App Folio mobile application.
Choose the Transport Department - RTA option from the available services.
Next, choose the Registration option.
You can choose the Transfer of Ownership of the Vehicle, Change of Address in RC, and Clearance Certificate based on your requirements and follow the process providing the necessary information.
How To Check RC Card Status Telangana?
The Transport Department, Government Of Telangana, offers an online platform to check RC status in Telangana.
- Steps To Check RC Application Status Online
Visit The Transport Department, Government of Telangana web portal.
From the drop-down menu, Online Transactions, navigate to Registration.
From the menu aligned to Registration, choose Application Status.
Provide the Application Number or Registration Number, whichever is applicable.
Click on Submit for RC Status Telangana.
How To Apply For Vehicle RC?
There are two types of registration: Temporary and Permanent registration applicable for your vehicle.
- How To Apply For Temporary RC?
The dealership from where you purchased your vehicle provides a temporary registration certificate. It is a unique number assigned to brand-new vehicles that are yet to be permanently registered and valid for a period of a maximum of one month. And within this one-month duration, you must get it permanently registered by the concerned Regional Transport Office (RTO) authority.
- Steps To Apply For A Temporary RC
Fill out the necessary details in Form 20 and submit it to the Registering Authority or the dealer recognised by the Transport Commissioner.
Submit copies of the Insurance Certificate, Sale Certificate, and Road Worthiness Certificate.
Pay the applicable fees and tax for temporary registration as specified under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989.

- How To Apply For Permanent RC?
According to Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989, you must register your vehicle under Section 39 of The Motor Vehicles Act 1988. The application for permanent registration must be made to the registering authority within seven days from the delivery date, excluding the journey period. If you have a temporary registration, apply for a permanent registration before it expires.

Fill out the necessary details in Form 20 to the appropriate Registering Authority.
Confirm the type of registration number, whether it is a Fancy number, Choice number, or General number
Confirm the usage requirement of the HSRP (High-Security Registration Plate) or smart card.
Pay the application fee and the tax based on the choice of registration number and use of HSRP/smart card according to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989.

How To Apply For RC Renewal?
A Registration Certificate is valid for 15 years for your car. And it has to be renewed within 60 days of the expiry date.

How To Apply For Duplicate RC?
When your vehicle’s registration certificate is reported to be damaged or lost, you can apply for a duplicate RC.

If your registration certificate is lost, you must report it to the nearest Police Station and file the FIR (First Information Report).
Fill out the necessary details and submit Form 26 to apply for a duplicate registration certificate.

How To Apply For Diplomatic Vehicle RC?
The vehicle RC for diplomatic and consular officers recognised by the central government is based on certain special provisions. The registering authority will register a diplomatic vehicle RC with a unique registration mark displayed on the vehicle.
Furthermore, they will issue a certificate of registration stating that the diplomatic vehicle has been registered under the special provisions. And if a diplomatic or consular officer no longer uses the vehicle, the vehicle will cease to have a diplomatic vehicle RC in such a case.
Here are a few guidelines applicable to a diplomatic vehicle RC:
The application for a diplomatic vehicle RC for a diplomatic officer or a consular officer shall be made in triplicate by the consular officer or the head of the mission.
Form 42 with the necessary details should be submitted and addressed to the Registering Authority.
Pay the applicable fees according to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989.

Change Of Address In RC
According to the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, you can apply for a change in address on your RC. However, it has to be applied within 14 days from the date of change in the address.

Endorsement of HP
Endorsement of HP refers to making an application to include an entry for lease, hire-purchase, and hypothecation agreement in the Registration Certificate. Form 34, duly filled and signed by the financier and the registered owner, is essential for the endorsement of HP.
Cancellation of HP
HP termination or cancellation refers to making an entry of termination of the agreement of lease, hire-purchase, and hypothecation agreement in the Registration Certificate. Form 35, duly filled and signed by the financier and the registered owner, is essential for the endorsement of HP.
Reassignment of Vehicle
If your vehicle is registered under a particular state and you have been using it in another state for over 12 months, you must apply for a new registration mark. You must register it with the registering authority under whose jurisdiction the vehicle is currently being used.
You can apply for the reassignment in Form 27 within 12 months of reassignment from one state to another.
