Maruti 1000 Car Insurance
Maruti 1000 Car Insurance
The Maruti 1000 is a discontinued model, sold in India between 1990 and 2000. It was the country's first modern sedan, and the few that remain on the road belong to long-term owners and vintage enthusiasts.
Most of these cars see limited city use, which leaves them open to dents, scratches, parking damage and monsoon flooding. Spares for a discontinued model are also scarce and costly, so repair bills climb without warning.
That is why TATA AIG Maruti 1000 insurance can be a practical choice for owners of Maruti 1000. You get affordable premiums, no salvage deduction, fair IDV settlement and cashless repairs across a wide garage network that includes authorised Maruti service centres.
How Much Does Maruti 1000 Car Insurance Cost?
The cost of Maruti 1000 depends on factors such as the car’s IDV, location, and policy type. Check the estimated premium instantly by entering your vehicle details below.

Why Insure Your Maruti 1000?
Third-Party Coverage is a Legal Requirement
Third-party car insurance is compulsory for every Maruti 1000 on Indian roads. Driving without valid insurance can lead to fines if you are caught. A first offence brings a ₹2,000 fine and a repeat offence ₹4,000, with jail time of up to three months.
Hit a pedestrian, a motorcycle, a parked car or a roadside wall without cover, and you pay the compensation yourself on top of the fine. This is why having a valid Maruti 1000 insurance is important. You can choose a standalone third-party policy or a comprehensive plan that includes third-party cover.
No-Surprise Repair Bills
A medium dent with a panel repaint ranges from ₹3,500 to ₹9,000, and heavy metal work starts near ₹9,000. These repair costs can add up quickly. Plus, city driving can lead to frequent scrapes and minor knocks. And finding replacement parts can also be difficult for a discontinued model like Maruti 1000.
Comprehensive Maruti 1000 car insurance covers eligible accidental damage and transfers much of the unexpected repair expense to the insurer.
Access Authorised Maruti Service Centres in Our Network
Since the Maruti 1000 is a discontinued model, you may find it difficult to arrange its spare parts on your own. Also, your local mechanic may not be able to repair this model well, since it is not commonly owned anymore.
However, to offer convenience to our Maruti 1000 owners, our 6,300+ cashless garage network includes many authorised Maruti workshops, helping you access trusted repairs closer to home.
You also get cashless repairs and dedicated claims assistance through TATA AIG. Together, these services make accident repairs simpler and help you get your classic Maruti 1000 back on the road with less hassle.
Covers Fire, Natural and Man-Made Disasters
Not every risk comes from how you drive. Flood water can enter the engine while storms can send branches or debris onto your car, leaving a bill larger than the value of an older car.
Comprehensive Maruti 1000 insurance can cover eligible damage from floods, storms, fire, earthquakes, riots, and other covered events.1 When a covered event damages your car, TATA AIG pays the eligible repair costs, subject to your policy terms, deductibles, and exclusions.
Covers Theft and Total Loss
Your Maruti 1000 can be stolen because of its rarity. If so, your Maruti 1000 car insurance can help compensate you for the loss based on its IDV, subject to the policy terms. We also reimburse the IDV if your car is damaged beyond repair in a major accident.2
For an approved theft or total loss claim, TATA AIG settles the applicable IDV without salvage deductions, helping you reduce the financial impact.3 Since the Maruti 1000 is discontinued, choosing the right IDV is especially important to protect your vehicle's value.
Which Maruti 1000 Car Insurance Policy Do I Get?
The Maruti 1000 is a discontinued, older model, so your car's age, condition, and intended usage should guide your insurance choice. TATA AIG offers three main car insurance options: comprehensive, third-party, and standalone own-damage insurance.
Before choosing a policy, you can also check your car insurance status to confirm your existing coverage and renewal details.

Third-Party Car Insurance - Best for Low-Value/Older Maruti 1000
Third-party car insurance covers your legal liability for injuries, death, or property damage caused to others. It does not cover damage to your own Maruti 1000.
Key Highlights:
Legally mandatory for driving on Indian roads.
Lower-cost option for older cars with low IDV.
Standalone Own-Damage Car Insurance - Useful in Specific Situations
Standalone own-damage insurance protects your Maruti 1000 against covered damage from accidents, theft, fire, and natural disasters. You must already have valid third-party insurance to buy this plan.
Key Highlights:
Covers only your car for damage
Is a more affordable alternative for owners who want protection without paying for a comprehensive policy

Mechanical Breakdowns: Mechanical or electrical failures, faults, and component breakages.
Consequential Loss: Further damage caused by continuing to drive after an incident, such as engine damage from overheating or hydrostatic lock, is not covered.
War & Similar Events: Loss or damage caused by war, invasion, mutiny, or similar events.
Damage Outside India: Loss or damage outside India, unless the geographical area is extended through a car insurance endorsement.
Maruti 1000 Car Insurance Add-On Covers Worth Buying
Realistically, no add-ons apply to the Maruti 1000. This is because the Maruti 1000 was discontinued in 2000, so it is far beyond the usual age eligibility limits for most car-insurance add-ons - which cap at 15 years maximum.5
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. And not being able to add add-ons to your Maruti 1000 matters less than it sounds.
Add-ons improve what you get on repair claims. Everything else that could actually damage the car - accidents, theft, fire, floods, storms, a total loss - is covered under a standard comprehensive policy with no add-ons required.
So the decision now isn't which add-ons to buy. It's whether to get a comprehensive or own damage policy at all, and what Insured Declared Value (IDV) to set if you do.
Because on a car with no add-on options, IDV is the entire remaining decision, and it's the one most owners get wrong by setting it low to shave the premium – especially on an older car like the Maruti 1000.
For discontinued models and cars over five years old, insurers determine the IDV through an agreement with the policyholder. A lower IDV can reduce your premium, but it also reduces the maximum payout for theft or total loss. Therefore, you should choose an IDV that reasonably reflects the car's current market value and condition.
Get the right insurance for your Maruti 1000 and drive with confidence
Note: Add-ons are subject to the vehicle meeting TATA AIG’s eligibility conditions at the time of purchase or renewal.
How to File a Maruti 1000 Car Insurance Claim
Cashless Claim
TATA AIG cashless car insurance claims let you get eligible repairs done at network garages without paying the approved repair cost upfront. This can be particularly convenient for maintaining an older Maruti 1000.
Register the claim:** Inform TATA AIG as soon as possible by calling 022-6489-8282, emailing general.claims@tataaig.com, using WhatsApp at 9136160375, or filing online through our claims page or the TATA AIG Mobile App. You can also visit a TATA AIG branch office to register your claim offline. A dedicated claim handler will assist you.
Choose a network garage: Take your Maruti 1000 to a TATA AIG network garage for eligible cashless repairs. With 6,300+ garages nationwide, the network also covers authorised Maruti Suzuki service centres, where available. Use our network garage locator tool to find a suitable garage.
Complete the inspection: TATA AIG will arrange a surveyor or ask you to conduct a guided video inspection to assess the damage. Wait for approval after the inspection before starting repairs, unless TATA AIG instructs you otherwise.
Get the repairs completed: The garage will repair your Maruti 1000 after claim assessment and approval. If it finds additional damage during repairs, the garage will send an updated repair bill to TATA AIG for reassessment and approval.
Settle your share: TATA AIG pays the approved repair expenses directly to the garage. You pay applicable deductibles, depreciation, and expenses excluded from your policy.
Reimbursement Claim
Choose a reimbursement claim when you want to repair your Maruti 1000 at a garage outside TATA AIG's cashless network.
Register before repairs: Inform TATA AIG as soon as possible by calling 022-6489-8282, emailing general.claims@tataaig.com, or using WhatsApp at 9136160375. You can also submit your claim online through the TATA AIG claims page or Mobile App. You can also visit a TATA AIG branch office to register your claim offline.
Complete the survey: TATA AIG may arrange a physical or digital survey. Do not begin repairs before inspection, unless specifically instructed.
Pay and repair: After approval, get the Maruti 1000 repaired at an authorised garage and pay the repair bill yourself. Keep the original bills, invoices, and receipts.
Submit documents: Send the required documents after repairs. Keep all applicable bills, invoices, receipts, and estimates from the garage, as missing documents can delay reimbursement.
Receive reimbursement: Reimbursement claims are generally settled within 7 days after receiving all required documents, with payment made through NEFT. The approved amount may be lower than the repair bill because of exclusions, depreciation, or deductibles.

Frequently Asked Questions
General
What is the Maruti 1000 insurance price?
The Maruti 1000 car insurance price depends on factors such as the car's IDV, age, location, and coverage type. Since it is a discontinued model, TATA AIG calculates the premium based on the car’s current market value, applicable depreciation, and other policy-specific factors.
Is the Maruti 1000 discontinued, and can I still insure it?
Yes, it is discontinued. The model was sold in India between 1990 and 2000. However, car insurance remains compulsory as long as the car is driven on public roads, regardless of its age. Depending on your needs, you can choose comprehensive, third-party, or standalone own-damage insurance for your Maruti 1000.
What is the third-party premium for a Maruti 1000?
The engine measures 970cc, which places it in the up to 1,000cc slab. That works out to ₹2,094 for a year. IRDAI sets these rates, so they are the same at every insurer.
How is the IDV fixed for a model that is no longer made?
For cars beyond five years and for discontinued models, IDV is set by agreement between you and us rather than by the standard depreciation table. Agree on a fair figure before you buy.
Will my Maruti 1000 insurance claim be rejected if spare parts are hard to find?
No. Scarce parts affect how long the repair takes, not whether the claim is valid. Plan for a longer stay at the garage on a model this old.
