Ahmedabad is the largest city in Gujarat and one of the fastest-growing metropolises in India. It is a hub of commerce, industry, education, and culture. It is also home to millions of vehicles, including cars, bikes, buses, trucks, and auto rickshaws. With so many vehicles on the road, the risk of accidents and damages is always there.

To curb such awful incidents to some extent, the government has made driving licenses mandatory. But if you are applying for a driver’s licence, you will first need to have a learning license in Ahmedabad.

What is a Learner's License?

A learning license allows you to drive on public roads for learning and practising as long as someone with a permanent driving license accompanies you. It is a prerequisite for obtaining a permanent driving license in India. Learning license is issued by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) of the respective state or union territory.

This license is valid for six months from the date of issue. You have a window of 150 days, starting from the day you get your learning license, to apply for a permanent license. That means you can apply after 30 days but not later than 180 days from the date you obtained your learning license.

As a learning license holder, you should always display the letter 'L' in red on the front and rear of the vehicle.

Having a timely four-wheeler and two-wheeler insurance renewal has many advantages. It saves you from the hefty expenses of fixing or replacing (vehicle components) after an accident. It also covers the treatment expenses of the injured parties and the legal liability arising from the incident. Furthermore, it gives you a sense of security and confidence while riding your bike on the crowded roads of Ahmedabad.

On the other hand, driving without a valid motor insurance policy or not renewing it on time can land you in trouble. According to the MV Act, riding without insurance is a legal offence, resulting in an e-challan in Ahmedabad of up to ₹4000 or detention for up to three months.

Moreover, you will have to pay for the entire cost of the damages and injuries caused by the accident, which can affect your financial and social status.
