Traffic Fines in Rajasthan

The Motor Vehicles Act of 2019 has brought several changes in the traffic regulations implemented across the country. Apart from increasing the traffic fines for some violations, it has also introduced new traffic rules in the country.

As compared to some other states, Rajasthan has done a commendable job at implementing traffic regulations all across the state. This has resulted in increased road safety, reduced traffic congestion problems, and increased traffic awareness among citizens.

New Four-Wheeler Traffic Rules in Rajasthan

Insure Your Vehicle: As per the MV Act of 2019, every vehicle must have a suitable insurance policy. If any driver is caught driving an uninsured motor vehicle, fines of up to ₹4,000 will be imposed along with other legal actions.

Wear a Seatbelt: Wearing a seatbelt is mandatory for the driver as well as the passengers of the four-wheeler. It is a safety regulation that prevents injuries during road accidents.

Carry Vehicle Documents When Driving: When driving on the public roads of Rajasthan, every driver is required to carry documents such as a driver's licence, vehicle RC, fitness certificate, PUC certificate, etc. Moreover, transport or commercial vehicles are required to carry relevant permits. No Drinking and Driving: Drinking and driving is a serious traffic offence not just in Rajasthan but all over India. It can be extremely dangerous to the driver and passengers of a vehicle as well as the other vehicles on the road. Note that drink-and-drive fines in Rajasthan can go up to ₹25,000 and may also result in up to 3 years of imprisonment.

No Underage Driving: The legal age for driving is 18 in India. If a minor is found driving a registered four-wheeler, then a fine of up to ₹5,000 will be imposed on the vehicle owner or guardian of the child. Moreover, in case of any traffic offence by a juvenile, imprisonment of up to 3 years and a fine of ₹25,000 will be imposed on the legal guardian.

New Two-Wheeler Traffic Rules in Rajasthan

Helmet for Rider and Pillion: Every two-wheeler rider, as well as the pillion rider, is mandated to wear a good quality helmet while riding. Note that the fine for not wearing a helmet in Rajasthan is ₹1000.

Carry Vehicle Documents: Similar to four-wheeler drivers, bike and scooter riders are also required to carry vehicle documents such as a driving licence or a learning licence, vehicle RC, bike insurance certificate, etc.

Avoid Overspeeding: Every rider should stay within the specified speed limits. Overspeeding not only results in traffic challans but is also extremely risky for the riders and other vehicles and passengers on the road.

Avoid Jumping Signals: Traffic signals are installed to maintain traffic and to offer a safe passage for pedestrians. Every citizen in Rajasthan is mandatorily required to follow the traffic lights. Doing otherwise can lead to fines of up to ₹5,000.

E-Challans are the digital version of paper-based challans that were issued to the violators of traffic rules. Today, instead of manually issuing tickets, the traffic police authorities issue eChallans on the registered details of the violators.

The eChallan system is driven by a technologically advanced traffic monitoring system that consists of high-quality CCTV cameras installed on all the major roads and highways of Rajasthan. Once these cameras identify the violators, an eChallan is issued to their corresponding email or contact number.

After receiving the challan, the violator is required to make the payment either online or offline within the stipulated deadline, which is 60 days from the date of its issuance.

Online Method: Using the Parivahan Portal**

Step 1: Open the Parivahan website in your web browser.

Step 2: Head to "Online Services" on the horizontal menu at the top and then click on "eChallan".

Step 3: Enter your challan number alongside the other pre-specified details.

Step 4: Fill up the verification (captcha) code and hit "Get Details".

Step 5: Next, you will be displayed a list of active challans registered under your name. Select the one you want to make the payment for.

Step 6: Make challan payment by selecting your preferred payment option.

Paying E-Challan Through Offline Mode

Step 1: Gather required documents such as your eChallan, driving licence, Aadhaar card, etc.

Step 2: Visit your nearest RTO or traffic police station.

Step 3: Go to the eChallan payment counter and enquire about the process.

Step 4: Make the payment in cash or via any other method of your choice.

Step 5: Request the acknowledgement receipt.

As discussed above, you can not drive an uninsured vehicle in Rajasthan. You must have valid insurance in order to drive legally in the state. Failure to present an insurance certificate can result in heavy fines and other punishments such as detention of vehicles, temporary seizure of DL, vehicle RC, etc.
