RTO Ahmedabad was formed to carry out the provisions and rules as specified by the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. It comes under the jurisdiction of the Department of Transport, Gujarat, and is headed by the Commissioner of the Transport Department, Gujarat.

Functions of Ahmedabad RTO

The main function of the Ahmedabad RTO is to enforce and govern the rules and regulations as specified by the Motor Vehicles Act from time to time. A major part of their duties involves granting or renewing the driving license, registration certificate, certificate of fitness, as well as issuing regular and temporary permits for vehicles. The RTO office in Ahmedabad also conducts vehicle inspection, regulates the transport system, manages traffic systems and rules, and performs several other transport-related activities.

How to Register a Vehicle at Ahmedabad RTO

To get a vehicle permanently registered at Ahmedabad RTO, you should follow these steps:

Step 1: Download the RTO Form 20 from the official website of the Ahmedabad RTO. You can choose the English or the Gujarati version, as per your preference. Step 2: Fill the form and submit it to the nearest RTO along with the relevant documents. Step 3: A trained inspector will assess the vehicle. This might not be required if the authorized dealer has already done the inspection. Step 4: Post verification of the details, the RTO office releases a unique registration number for your vehicle.

The Registration Certificate (RC) is sent to your registered address through speed post. In case you have a temporary registration number, you must obtain a permanent one before the temporary registration expires.

How to Renew a Registration Certificate in Ahmedabad

As per the norms, a registration certificate for private vehicles is valid for 15 days. You must renew the registration before the expiry to avoid paying penalties. Your RC is renewed after the transport authority assesses the roadworthiness of the vehicle for five years.

To renew the registration certificate, you must obtain and duly fill the required RTO form and submit these documents.
