Bangalore RTO Office

The “Silicon City of India” Bangalore, is a place full of life, culture and cuisine. Every year, lakhs of people come to Bangalore for better career opportunities, creating new lives for themselves. Many of them become permanent residents of the city, and this makes Bangalore one of the most populous cities in India

This rising population and the economic culture of Banglore led to an increase in the number of vehicles and traffic on the road. If we look at the numbers, you will get to know that on average a Bangalorean wastes 243 hours a year being stuck in Bangalore traffic.

To counter this issue, the Regional Transport Office Bangalore has several offices and check-points for different areas.

But the Bangalore RTO office does not work only for managing traffic, it has several other responsibilities and functions. Before learning about them, let us understand more about the Bangalore RTO office.

What is the Bangalore RTO Office?

Bangalore has always been known for being a busy city, with its IT offices, fast-moving vehicles and hustle culture. However, in the past few years, this hustle-bustle has risen at a very fast pace, resulting in traffic congestion and wastage of time.

Established under Section 213 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, Bangalore RTO is responsible for the management and admission of new or old vehicles. From doing registration to levying road taxes Bangalore RTO does it all.

Some of its services, like issuing DL Extract, B-Extract of Transport Vehicles or getting RC-Extract information, are provided on the Bangalore One application. This way, people can get their information from anywhere using this application.

This delegates a lot of the Bangalore RTO office’s tasks, however, most of the work is still done in the various regional offices of Bangalore RTO.

Functions of Bangalore RTO Office

The RTO offices have several functions to fulfil, they are entrusted with road safety and maintenance of Bangalore. Under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 they are given various functions, some of which are discussed below.

Enforcing Rules & Regulations: The RTOs of Bangalore work collectively and on an individual level to enforce road safety and security regulations. They are entrusted with overseeing all public safety and take necessary actions in case of any violations. Whenever required to help them in this task, additional government forces are also included.

Tax Collection: Every vehicle that runs on the road is liable to pay road tax to the government, depending on their vehicle type. It is the responsibility of Bangalore RTO to ensure that the right tax is levied and collected on time. They also collected taxes in case of inter-state vehicle transportation.

Database Maintenance: Maintaining the record of every vehicle and their drivers’ details of the whole is a crucial task for every Bangalore RTO. They ensure that whenever a new vehicle is bought, the details of the vehicle and owner are registered into their database system as soon as possible.

RTOs are also responsible for updating information in case of ownership transfer of a vehicle, or driver moving to another state.

Checkpoints Control: Bangalore RTO checks vehicles at every checkpoint. This ensures that vehicles are as per road safety standards, and in case of accidents, vehicles are re-registered.

Services Offered at the Bangalore RTO Office

RTO of Bangalore offers a wide array of services to the public under the law. People can avail of those services either by visiting Bangalore RTO online or offline. Some of the services which Bangalore RTO offers are listed below:

Vehicle Registration

Every vehicle that operates on Bangalore city’s roads has to be registered in the RTOs database. For this, Bangalore RTO provides vehicle registration services to every new vehicle owner. They also provide service for changing the ownership details for the second-hand bought vehicle. These are the types of registration done by Bangalore RTO.

Temporary Vehicle Registration: This type of vehicle registration is done by the Bangalore RTO for newly purchased vehicles. A temporary number with a validity of a month is given to the vehicle owner till their registration is done permanently.

Permanent Vehicle Registration: Permanent registration happens after one month of temporary registration. Now, the details of the vehicle and vehicle owner are in the database of Bangalore RTO and they are permitted to drive in the city without any issue.

Issuing Driving Licence

Bangalore RTO issues driving licences to eligible candidates. To apply to get the licence, you either visit your nearest RTO office or go to the RTO website and apply online. However, the RTO only issues licences verifying your credentials, and compliance with law and based on your driving skills and knowledge.

There are different types of driving licences issued by Bangalore RTO, these are:

Learner’s Driving Licence: A learner’s licence is mandatory for issuing a permanent licence later. This type of licence is to display that this licence holder is still brushing up their driving skills and road safety knowledge.

Later, based on the tests taken by the RTO officer, they can decide whether the applicant is eligible for a permanent licence or not.

Permanent Driving Licence: All the applicants who get the learner licence now have to apply for a permanent licence, only if they pass all the tests and verifications of the RTO officer, applicants issued this licence.

The validity of a permanent licence is twenty years from the date of issue. Once it expires, the applicant has to re-apply and take re-tests.

International Driving Licence: Any permanent driving licence holder can apply for this type of licence. An international licence is given to the Bangalore RTO for people who wish to drive in foreign cities.

Certain rules and regulations need to be followed by applicants to get this licence. The validity of an international driving licence is only one year.

Permit Issuance

Another service provided by Bangalore RTO authorities is the issuance of various permits. RTO authorities issue various permits to vehicle owners.

These permits depend on the type of vehicles, permit they want and their compliance with road safety rules and regulations. These are different types of permits given by the Bangalore RTO:

Goods Carrier Permit: Under Section 79 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, these permits are granted to all the goods carrier vehicles running in the city. This permit is granted to them for carrying the permitted goods from one place to another within city limits.

Stage Carrier Permit: A stage carrier permit is granted to buses running within the city limits. They are permitted to carry passengers on their designed routes within the city.

National Permit: This type of permit is granted to goods vehicles to carry goods outside the state limits. This permit allows them to travel in four continuous states, including their home state.

Institution and School Bus Permit: All institutional and school buses are granted the permit to run on their fixed route. Such vehicles are also exempted from road tax and their identification is done through the yellow paint.

Permit Renewals: Bangalore RTO also provides the service of permit renewal. As all the permits have limited time validity, they need to be renewed, otherwise the vehicle driver can be fined heavily.

Vehicle Inspection

Bangalore RTO does routine vehicle inspections to ensure that all the road safety regulations are being followed. To do so, they inspect the vehicle’s health and do a pollution check. After the inspection is done and everything comes out to be fine, the vehicle is given a PUC certificate, which needs to be renewed from time to time.

Road Safety Assurance

Bangalore RTO makes it their responsibility to ensure the road safety of the public. They oversee that all the road regulations are met and that no vehicle owner goes over the instructed speed limit in the city. RTO officers also check the car insurance status of motorbike/car owners, and it is mandated for them to have a minimum of third-party insurance to avoid any legal actions.

Importance of Bike/Car Insurance

Bangalore RTO is working to ensure that they fulfil their responsibilities to their capabilities and provide the public with all the services. That is why they make sure that, before they issue anyone's driving licence or register anyone’s vehicle, every detail is correct.

Bangalore RTO officers take tests of drivers before granting them licences, and every driver is given a licence as per their vehicle type and driving skills. But officers and individuals can only be cautious and there is no telling what the future holds.

The congested traffic and fast-moving vehicles in Bangalore often invite unforeseeable road accidents. These accidents often leave vehicles useless and a large amount of damage repair bills.

But, you can avoid such bills and keep yourself and your vehicle safe with good two/four-wheeler insurance. Our Tata AIG bike and car insurance makes sure that you get cashless damage repair from our large network of 7500 garages.
