Travel insurance is a type of insurance policy that covers a wide range of unexpected expenses that may arise during your trip. For example, if you require urgent medical attention, hospitalisation due to an accident, experience a flight delay, or lose your luggage, a travel insurance policy helps cover these costs.
This financial protection will be available for your entire trip, even if you’re travelling to multiple countries. You can also customise the level of coverage required under your travel insurance policy based on your destination and the purpose of your trip.
Here are some of the key expenses covered under travel insurance plans:
- Medical emergencies and hospitalisation expenses abroad
- Personal liability and legal expenses
- Baggage loss or delay
- Medical evacuation and repatriation
- Non-refundable expenses due to trip delays and cancellations
- Loss or theft of a passport and other travel documents
- Aircraft hijacking
- Emergency cash advance in case of loss or theft of credit cards or cheques
- Cover for missed cruise*
- Cover for loss or theft of portable electronic items*
- Personal accident cover for accidental injuries in India
Many countries require travellers to buy travel insurance as part of their visa application processes. In other words, you may not be allowed to visit certain countries unless you have both a valid visa and a travel insurance policy purchased from India.
With the right travel insurance plan, you can focus on enjoying your journey without worrying about unexpected disruptions.

See How Travellers Rely on TATA AIG Travel Insurance
Travelling is always fun, but unexpected things can spoil your travel plans too. During my recent US trip, I developed a throat infection that needed medical attention.
Worried, I contacted TATA AIG immediately. To my surprise, they offered a quick and efficient service. They were extremely helpful.
They guided me through the entire process and made the claim settlement smooth and efficient. They were very fast and regularly followed up with me to make the claim settlement faster. I found that TATA AIG really cares about its customers.
The benefits of the plan and its services impressed me. I got the much-needed help at the most vulnerable time. The process was transparent and reliable, making me feel secure all the time. “TATA AIG Travel Insurance exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend it!” My work demands travelling extensively. I also love to explore foreign destinations on family vacations. I have been to nearly 73 countries, and with the huge number, I am well aware of how expensive medical care can be abroad. That makes having a TATA AIG travel insurance a must for me.
I travel almost every month. Even though I prioritise fitness as a lifestyle, I developed terrible back pain on my last Singapore trip. It was very sudden and painful. The treatment was extremely expensive.
My experience with TATA AIG was great. The claim for the back pain treatment was very straightforward and hassle-free. It was not my first claim with TATA AIG. I had gone through the same process when in Dubai last year for various medical issues. And it was equally smooth. The doctors took care of the treatment, and TATA AIG took care of the expenses.
I highly recommend TATA AIG for everyone. With my experience, I completely trust the service. TATA AIG is the perfect choice if you are seeking a reliable insurance partner.
“Stress-free travel with TATA AIG’s Travel Guard Insurance!”
In February 2024, my wife and I planned a trip to the US. We went to Seattle. When we landed there, we were surprised to see that our bags were not on the belt. When we connected with the airlines, they informed us that our luggage was not lost but only misplaced.
So, the next morning, to battle the biting cold of Seattle, we went to a store and bought some essential clothes. We then got in touch with TATA AIG. They were very prompt in responding to our emails and offered all the necessary information and assurance.
On our return to Bangalore, we got in touch with TATA AIG and started the claim process without much hassle and paperwork. They helped me settle the claim without any follow-ups and just within a few days.
I have had a great experience with TATA AIG Travel Insurance and recommend it for their excellent customer support. With TATA AIG, you can make your travel more relaxed and secure.

Travel brings new experiences, and while most moments are enjoyable, an unexpected incident can result in a medical concern. This can range from a mild food allergy to an accidental injury or a medical emergency. TATA AIG offers travel insurance plans with extensive coverage for medical expenses.
Medical Emergencies
Your travel insurance policy will help you deal with the financial implications that come with meeting with an accident or falling ill while you’re travelling. The policy will cover everything, right from a regular illness that requires hospitalisation to dental emergencies and even fatalities.
If you’re in the hospital and your policy expires, we will continue to cover you for the next 60 days or until you are discharged, whichever is earlier.
Medical Evacuation
Your travel insurance policy is your friend in times of need. If you require emergency medical evacuation to the nearest hospital, this policy will take care of that. In case you need to be evacuated and brought back to India for medical treatment, the travel insurance policy will look after that as well.
Accidental Death and Repatriation
We don’t want to think about it, but it’s possible that an accident or medical emergency abroad could end up being fatal. TATA AIG’s travel insurance policy will provide the nominee with the full sum insured amount if this happens.
We will also take care of the cost of repatriating the insured individual’s remains to their city of residence.
A delayed or cancelled flight could wreak havoc on your itinerary. We cannot make up for lost time, but these covers will help you deal with the financial loss.

Loss of Personal Baggage
You will be reimbursed up to the sum insured in case of theft or burglary of your baggage while it is in your custody overseas.
Loss or Delay of Checked-In Baggage
You will be reimbursed if your checked-in baggage is delayed or misdirected by the airline. Similarly, the permanent loss of your check-in baggage by the airline is also covered under the loss or delay of checked-in baggage cover.

If you need someone’s assistance while hospitalised, we will provide a two-way travel ticket for a family member to visit and take care of you.
Interruption of Study
