What is a Learner's Licence?

A learner's licence is a legal permit and temporary licence issued by the RTO (Regional Transport Office) to practise driving a motor vehicle. It is issued upon successful completion of the Learner's Licence test, which is computer-based and has multiple-choice questions. The test will be based on basic motor and traffic rules and regulations.

After receiving the Learner's Licence, you can practise with the help of a person (having a valid driving licence) who can guide you through the driving rules.

After 30 days of holding the learner's licence, you can apply for the permanent licence. However, the learner’s licence is valid for 6 months from the date of issue.

Furthermore, it is essential to note that you must have an 'L' shaped plate or card painted in red on a white background on the front and rear of your vehicle.
