Hyundai Kona Electric 2024 Car Insurance
The Hyundai Kona Electric is a premium electric SUV known for its compact size and quick acceleration. Whether you want to navigate right lanes, stop and start quickly at busy traffic junctions or commute all week without daily charging, this is the perfect urban EV. Hyundai also discontinued the Kona Electric in June 2024.
Despite its urban-friendly design, driving a high-end EV through dense city traffic comes with certain risks, from minor scrapes and bumps to destructive EV fires, battery damage and frontal collisions. A Kona insurance policy is necessary to protect your purchase from unpredictable risks.
Thankfully, TATA AIG provides specialised EV insurance plans and add-ons like Electric Surge Secure that cover loss and damage to batteries, portable chargers and other components. Our Kona electric car insurance also provides you with access to a pan-India network of authorised Hyundai service centres.

Why Insure Your Hyundai Kona Electric 2024?
Third-Party Coverage is a Legal Requirement
The Motor Vehicles Act makes third-party insurance mandatory to drive any motor vehicle on India's public roads. If you are caught driving an uninsured Hyundai Kona Electric, you can face fines from ₹2,000 to ₹4,000, jail for up to 3 months or both. Additionally, causing third-party injuries or property damage with your EV can lead to expensive legal liabilities running into lakhs of rupees.
With a third-party Kona Electric 2024 insurance plan, you can avoid traffic fines by fulfilling legal requirements and cover legal compensation for third-party injuries, disabilities and fatalities.
Repair Bills Scale With What's in the Car
Kona Electric 2024’s premium pricing (₹23-25 lakhs), along with limited parts availability and service infrastructure, makes for high repair costs. A frontal collision or a rear-end crash with this premium EV can damage many expensive components, such as parking sensors, cameras, automatic doors and various electrical parts.
A Hyundai Kona electric insurance plan covers repairs and replacement of parts due to accidents, fire, natural disasters and other risks, subject to policy terms. This keeps your out-of-pocket costs down as insurance covers most of your expensive repair bill.
Access to Hyundai Authorised Workshops in the Network
Hyundai Motor India offers a wide, pan-India network of 1670+ service touchpoints across 1020+ cities, including very remote areas. With TATA AIG’s car insurance, you get access to most of Hyundai’s brand-authorised service centres for cashless repairs, genuine parts and expertise.
Some of our top benefits include a network size of 6300+ garages, which include authorised Hyundai repair facilities, doorstep pick-up and drop-off services, a 3-minute customer call-back and a fully digital claim process.
Covers Fire, Natural & Man-Made Disasters
Everyday driving exposes your EV to unpredictable risks such as flooded streets, heavy monsoon rain or falling trees and objects during severe storms. While rare, EVs can also risk a high-voltage battery fire. A car insurance plan covers your Kona Electric from a wide range of unforeseen events.
And with the right add-ons, our insurance for the Hyundai Kona Electric covers the vehicle, battery and portable chargers against a wide range of natural and manmade events, subject to policy terms.
Covers Theft & Total Loss
Rising cases of vehicle theft in major cities are a top concern for owners of high-end EVs like the Kona Electric, especially if you regularly park at unsecured locations. Total loss from a frontal crash or a natural calamity is another major threat for EV owners and requires comprehensive insurance coverage.
Our comprehensive and own damage plans cover reimbursement up to the Insured Declared Value for theft, total loss and total constructive loss claims. With the Return to Invoice cover, we pay the full on-road price.

Hyundai Kona Electric 2024 Car Insurance Add-On Covers Worth Buying
Electric Surge Secure
The Electric Surge Secure is an essential EV add-on available for cars up to 5 years old. It covers repairs and replacement of the EV and charging equipment due to electrical issues like arcing, self-heating, short-circuiting, and water damage to electrical systems.
Depreciation Allowance- Battery
If the cost of the battery is included in the IDV, this add-on covers the depreciation deducted on battery replacement during an own damage claim. The add-on is especially useful for EVs, where the battery is one of the most expensive parts, available for cars up to 5 years old.
Depreciation Reimbursement
Also called the Zero Depreciation add-on, it covers depreciation deducted on part replacements for own damage insurance claims. It's highly useful for the Kona Electric 2024 as it covers your out-of-pocket costs on high-value parts such as the battery pack, electric motor, inverter or information and navigation cluster that quickly depreciate. Covers cars up to 10 years old.
Roadside Assistance
The Roadside Assistance (RSA) add-on provides emergency services at your location and is useful for sudden breakdowns or battery depletion. It covers on-the-spot repairs, jump-starting the battery, tyre fixing services, emergency fuel delivery, towing services, and more , for cars up to 15 years old.
Tyre Secure
The Tyre Secure add-on covers the cost of repairing and replacing your car tyres and tubes if they are accidentally damaged. The Hyundai Kona Electric comes equipped with premium Nexen or Kumho all-season tyres. Replacement costs can range from ₹8600 to ₹31,000 depending on the brand, making Tyre Secure a must-have add-on. It covers cars up to 7 years old.
Additional Towing Charges
The Additional Towing Charge add-on covers the extra costs of towing your Hyundai Kona Electric to the nearest garage or service station over what’s covered in the base policy. It’s highly beneficial for high-end EVs and driving in remote areas where specialised transport over long distances can result in high out-of-pocket costs. The add-on is available for cars up to 15 years old.
Return to Invoice
The Return to Invoice cover pays the difference between your Kona Electric’s Insured Declared Value and on-road price, covering registration charges, road tax and insurance cost. This add-on is the most useful for brand new cars and driving in accident-prone areas and is available for cars up to 5 years old.
No Claim Bonus Protection
The NCB Protection Cover protects your accumulated No Claim Bonus from being reset to zero from a single own damage claim filed during the policy year. It’s an essential add-on when you have accumulated substantial savings and drive in accident-prone areas. Cars up to 10 years old are eligible for this add-on.
Daily Allowance Plus
The Daily Allowance Plus reduces your travel inconvenience while your Kona Electric is being repaired after an accident or other covered events. It provides either a fixed daily cash benefit or a hire car for alternative transportation. The add-on is available for cars up to 10 years old.
What Affects Your Kona Electric 2024's Insurance Cost
Your total Hyundai Kona Electric insurance price depends on two major components: a third-party premium component fixed by the IRDAI and an own damage component that varies based on a range of factors.
The Fixed Part: Third-Party Premium
The premium for third-party car insurance is set by the IRDAI and is standard across all insurance providers. For an electric car like the Kona Electric 2024, the price depends on the battery capacity (in kilowatt-hours) and policy term.
| Variants | Battery Capacity (kWh) | TP Band | 1-Year TP Premium* |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 Kona Electric SE | 99 | More than 65 kWh | ₹6712 |
| 2024 Kona Electric SEL, Limited | 150 | More than 65 kWh | ₹6712 |
The Variable Part: Own-Damage Premium
| What Moves It | Why It Matters on a Hyundai Kona Electric 2024 |
|---|---|
| IDV | A lower IDV reduces your insurance premium, while a higher IDV increases it. Selecting a lower IDV also increases your out-of-pocket costs during a Kona insurance claim. |
| Add-Ons | Each car insurance add-on increases the overall premium amount. The more add-ons you include, the higher your insurance costs. You can use our car insurance premium calculator to get a detailed cost breakdown of add-ons. |
| City of Registration | The city where your car is registered directly impacts your own damage premium. Premium rates are based on zones defined by IRDAI. Cars registered in Zone A cities, including Bengaluru, New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune, carry higher premiums than Zone B cities. |
| No Claim Bonus | The No Claim Bonus is a premium discount for renewing without filing a claim in the previous year. The discount ranges from 20% to 50% based on the number of claim-free years. |
| Claim History | Your claim history may be one of the factors insurers consider when assessing your premium. Frequent claims, including smaller ones, may affect the premium offered at renewal. It also leads to the loss of your NCB discount. |
What Can You Do About It?
- Set a Realistic IDV: Set a realistic IDV based on the actual selling price in used-car markets for discontinued models. However, avoid setting an amount too low to cover repair costs.
- Preserve Your No Claim Bonus: Avoid filing minor, unnecessary claims to prevent your NCB from being reset. If you have saved a substantial bonus, the NCB Protection add-on protects your savings.
- Install Anti-Theft Devices: Installing ARAI-approved safety devices, such as anti-theft alarms, vehicle immobilisers, etc., makes you eligible for special discounts on the premium.
What IDV Should You Set for Your Kona Electric 2024?
Insured Declared Value, or IDV, is the current market price of your Kona Electric after accounting for depreciation. It’s also the maximum payout offered by an insurer in the event of theft or total loss of your vehicle.
When purchasing Kona Electric insurance online, you can select a lower or higher IDV within a specified range. However, choosing an unrealistically low or high value can negatively affect your costs or claim payout. Know how to set the right IDV for your Hyundai Kona Electric 2024:
The Trade Off
| If You Set the IDV…. | Your Premium | If Your Hyundai Kona Electric 2024 is Stolen or Written Off |
|---|---|---|
| Low (to save money) | Decreases | You get a lower-value reimbursement, which increases your out-of-pocket costs for a replacement. |
| High (to increase payout) | Increases | You pay higher insurance costs, but the insurer limits your payout to the car’s actual market value. |
| Market value (to match the vehicle price) | Becomes balanced | You get the best value for your money with sufficient claim payout. |
What to Set on a Hyundai Kona Electric 2024
Set the Insured Declared Value as close to the current market value of your Kona Electric 2024. To set the exact value, search the resale value of the vehicle in the used car market for the exact variant, age and approximate mileage.
In an electric vehicle, the IDV is often concentrated in one component- the battery. A total constructive loss (where repair costs exceed 75% of IDV) can easily cross a low insured value, resulting in a claim payout that neither covers repairs nor vehicle replacement. To ensure sufficient coverage, you can add the Return to Invoice cover to your Kona insurance plan.
For discontinued cars, the IDV amount is decided by an agreement between the insurer and policyholder. Ensure you set a realistic value that is neither too low nor too high compared to the market selling price. Also consider the cost of fittings and accessories to avoid underinsurance.
The Mistake to Avoid
Avoid choosing a very low IDV just to reduce your Hyundai Kona Electric insurance premium. It may save you a small amount on your premium but reduces your insurance coverage, leaving you with major losses if your EV is stolen or declared a total loss. Also avoid setting an artificially high IDV, as it does not increase your claim payout.
