Why Insure Your Tata Curvv EV?
- Third-Party Coverage is a Legal Requirement
Under the Motor Vehicles Act, third-party insurance coverage is mandatory for every vehicle on public roads. Violations carry fines up to ₹4,000, jail for up to 3 months, or both. If you cause injuries, property damage or fatalities with an uninsured car, you may also have to cover substantial legal compensation on your own.
Third-party insurance coverage covers both small fines and legal liability for a premium as low as ₹2904.
- Keep Repair Costs Predictable on Your Tata Curvv EV
With an ex-showroom price starting at ₹16.99 lakhs, repair of an upscale electric SUV can be a major cost burden. While an OEM fog lamp can cost ₹6900, expensive parts such as fast chargers can cost ₹31,000-59,000 to replace after a major mishap. A comprehensive Curvv EV insurance plan can cover the repair costs of your premium vehicle, letting you enjoy stress-free driving.
- Cashless Repairs Without Paying Upfront
Tata Motors has a pan-India network of 1600+ workshops, and most of these are TATA AIG network partners. Buying our car insurance plan provides you access to 6300+ network garages with 24/7 customer support and a dedicated claim handler for seamless cashless repairs.
We also provide quick roadside assistance with a typical response time of 1-3 hours and doorstep pick-up and drop-off services for your convenience
- Covers Fire, Natural & Man-Made Disasters
Fire, floods, storms and other unforeseen events can cause significant damage to your Tata Curvv EV. Driving through a flooded street can damage critical electrical components, while an EV fire can lead to extensive damage or a total loss.
TATA AIG’s Electric Car Insurance covers your vehicle, EV batteries, and portable chargers from loss or damage. With the Electric Surge Secure add-on, it also covers damage from charging issues and voltage fluctuations.
- Covers Theft & Total Loss
When you own a premium electric vehicle, theft is one of the biggest financial risks, whether it happens at your home, office or roadside. An accident, fire or flooding can also cause irreparable damage to your Tata Curvv EV, leaving you without personal transport.
Our Curvv EV car insurance provides replacement cover up to the Insured Declared Value (IDV) or the on-road price with the Return to Invoice add-on.

Insuring a Tata Electric Curvv EV
- How an EV is Rated
IRDAI has set fixed third-party premium rates, with a flat 15% discount on premiums for electric vehicles like the Tata Curvv EV. The premium rate is set by the car’s battery capacity in kilowatt-hours (kWh).
The current third-party Curvv EV insurance premium is ₹2904 for 1-year plans and ₹9044 for 3-year plans for all variants. Own damage insurance pricing is set individually by factors such as the vehicle’s value and the insurer’s risk.
- What Actually Needs Covering on an EV
The battery is often the highest-value component in an EV. TATA AIG’s Electric Surge Secure add-on covers damage to your EV and its charger due to electrical issues such as arcing, self-heating, electricity leakage and water ingress while charging.
The Depreciation Reimbursement add-on covers the depreciation amount normally deducted from part replacement during repairs. It extends to EV components, including the battery and charger and non-electric parts. The Depreciation Allowance- Battery provides depreciation coverage for only battery replacements.
- Your Battery Warranty is Not Your Insurance
A battery warranty covers manufacturing defects and degradation, while insurance for Tata Curvv EV covers external damage due to accidents, fire, and natural disasters. Neither is a substitute for the other, and having a valid warranty doesn’t mean you don’t require insurance cover.
For the Tata Curvv EV, the brand offers a lifetime original warranty valid for 15 years. This warranty covers only defective parts and excludes any damage due to accidents and collisions. A car insurance policy is required to cover damage from unforeseen situations.
- EV Repairs and the Network
EV repairs require specialised diagnostic tools, safety gear, facility upgrades, training and certification to safely handle high-voltage work. Since not every garage is equipped to repair EVs, you need to check which network garage will repair your Tata Curvv EV.
TATA AIG offers access to an extensive network of Tata Motor authorised service centres that handle electric vehicles. Check our Garage Locator page to find repairers in your area.
Tata Curvv EV Car Insurance Add-On Covers Worth Buying
Here are some of our most popular add-on covers for Tata Curvv EV insurance:
- Electric Surge Secure This specialised add-on is available for Tata Curvv EVs up to 5 years old and is ideal for regular EV users. It helps protect your vehicle and charging equipment against electrical risks such as arcing, self-heating, electricity leakage, charging-related issues, and water damage.
- Depreciation Reimbursement Also known as the Zero Depreciation cover, this add-on reimburses the depreciation amount deducted from your own-damage claim on replaced parts. It is particularly beneficial for EV owners because it helps reduce out-of-pocket expenses on high-value components.
- Roadside Assistance This add-on provides 24x7 emergency support services, including spot repairs, flat tyre assistance, fuel delivery, towing, battery assistance, and more. It is especially useful for EV owners as it offers help in situations such as a discharged battery or an out-of-charge vehicle.
- Return to Invoice The Return to Invoice add-on helps bridge the gap between the vehicle's Insured Declared Value (IDV) and its original invoice price in the event of theft or total loss. It can also cover applicable road tax, registration charges, and insurance charges, subject to policy terms and conditions.
- Depreciation Allowance - Battery EV batteries are among the most expensive components of an electric vehicle. This add-on covers the depreciation amount deducted from your own-damage claim when an insured battery replacement is required, making it particularly useful for EVs up to 5 years old.
No Claim Bonus Protection
This add-on protects your accumulated No Claim Bonus from a single own damage claim. Highly recommended if you have saved several bonuses over several years and drive your EV in accident-prone areas.
- Additional Towing Charges This add-on covers towing expenses beyond the limit available under the base policy. It can help pay for transporting your Tata Curvv EV to the nearest authorised garage after an accident, particularly when long-distance towing or specialised EV transportation is required.
What IDV Should You Set for Your Tata Curvv EV?
Insured Declared Value (IDV) is your car’s current market value after deducting depreciation. This is the maximum amount that your insurer pays for vehicle theft or total loss claims.
While insurance buyers get to choose the IDV when buying Tata Curvv EV insurance online, they often select the wrong value. Learn how to set the right IDV for your car:
The Trade-Off
| If You Set the IDV…. | Your Premium | If Your Curvv EV is Stolen or Written Off |
|---|---|---|
| Low (to save money) | Decreases | You receive less payout and have to cover the financial gap |
| High (to increase payout) | Increases | You spend more on premiums while your payout is capped at the vehicle’s market value |
| Market value (to match the vehicle price) | Balanced | You get a fair payout based on your vehicle’s market value without overinflating your premium value |
What's Different on an EV
Unlike a petrol car where the IDV is roughly its market value, an electric car’s IDV is mostly concentrated on one component- the battery pack.
Insurers declare a total constructive loss when the cost of repair reaches 75% of your car’s IDV. Since an EV’s battery makes up most of the IDV, underbody scrapes and water damage can quickly drive up repair costs, crossing the 75% threshold and leading to insufficient payout.
The manufacturer’s warranty does not cover accidental damage and theft. To get sufficient coverage, avoid relying on the warranty and set a sufficiently high IDV on your insurance.
What to Set on a Tata Curvv EV
To set the right IDV for your Tata Curvv EV, find out the selling price of pre-owned cars. Research the price for your exact variant, battery pack and mileage and select a realistic IDV based on market data.
You cannot artificially inflate your insurance payout by setting a higher IDV, as insurers only pay the market value for replacement. Our Return to Invoice add-on lowers the financial gap between the IDV and actual replacement cost and is especially useful if you have financed your Tata Curvv EV purchase.
The Mistake to Avoid
Avoid setting a low IDV just so you shave a fraction off your Curvv EV insurance premium. Unlike older cars and ex-fleet cars, a low IDV on a recently launched EV only decreases your payout and increases the write-off threshold for a total constructive loss.
At TATA AIG, we do not negotiate the IDV at claim time. We pay the exact figure mentioned in your policy documents.
What Affects Your Curvv EV’s Insurance Cost
Your Tata Curvv EV insurance price depends on two major components: a fixed third-party premium and a variable own damage premium. Know how the cost is decided:
The Fixed Part: Third-Party Premium
Third-party insurance premium rates are set by the IRDAI and are the same across all insurers. For electric cars like the Tata Curvv EV, the premium rate is decided by the battery capacity:
| Your Variant | Battery Capacity (kWh) | 1-Year TP Premium | 3-Year TP Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tata Curvv EV Accomplished X 55 | 55 | ₹2904 | ₹9044 |
| Tata Curvv EV Empowered X 55 | 55 | ₹2904 | ₹9044 |
| Tata Curvv EV Empowered X DK 55 | 55 | ₹2904 | ₹9044 |
| What Moves It | Why It Matters on a Curvv EV | |
|---|---|---|
| IDV | A lower IDV reduces your Curvv EV insurance premium and claim payout. A higher IDV increases your premium and payout. | |
| Your Curvv EV’s Safety Rating | Both the safety rating and estimated repair costs decide premium rates. The Curvv EV comes with a 5-star BNCAP rating. | |
| Add-Ons | Each add-on you include to your plan increases the total premium. Avoid including unnecessary add-ons to keep your costs affordable. | |
| City of Registration | Your city’s traffic density, accident rates and crime rates affect insurance costs. Metro cities typically carry higher costs than semi-urban and rural areas. | |
| No Claim Bonus | This is a premium discount offered every year for renewing your plan without filing any claim. Get discounts from 20% to 50% on the own damage premium. | |
| Claim History | Frequent claims are riskier for the insurer, resulting in a higher premium. It also resets your No Claim Bonus. |
| Event | Standard Comprehensive Cover? | Important Caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Accidental Damage (Road Accidents, Collisions) | Yes | Deductions for deductible and exclusions apply |
| Third-Party Property Damage | Yes | Claims limited to ₹7.5 lakhs |
| Third-Party Bodily Injury or Death | Yes | No upper limit for compensation; amount decided by the court |
| Flood/Inundation | Yes | Engine Secure required to cover water damage to the engine and gearbox |
| Earthquake | Yes | Fire and shock damage also covered |

| Landslide | Yes | Rockslide also covered |

| Riot/Strike/Malicious Damage | Yes | Subject to policy terms |
| Terrorism | Yes | Subject to policy terms |
