Philippines Consulate in India: Difference Between an Embassy and a Consulate
The Philippines and India established diplomatic relations in 1949, shortly after both countries gained independence. The Philippines maintains an embassy in New Delhi along with consulates in major cities and India maintains an Embassy in Manila.
While these terms are used interchangeably by most people, embassies and consulates have a few key differences:
An embassy is seen as the highest level of diplomatic representation of a country in another country's capital city. They are responsible for maintaining economic, political and cultural relations between the two countries.
A consulate, on the other hand, is a smaller diplomatic mission located in major cities of a country. They focus on providing consular services and promoting trade and economic relations in major cities of the host country.
Consular services are offered to their country's citizens (Philippines) in the host country (India) and include services like issuing passports, offering help with legal and administrative processes and providing assistance during emergencies.
Now, when it comes to applying for visas/entry permits to the Philippines from India, you can approach either the Philippines Embassy in New Delhi or any of the Philippines consulates in India – whichever is closest to your residence location. Both offer visa and passport services.
