Indonesia Work Visa Requirements for Indian Citizens

To get an Indonesia work visa, you need to fulfil basic requirements, including:

  • The applicant must be of at least 18 or above to work or to be employed.

  • An applicant must possess the required skills and qualifications needed by the Indonesian employer.

  • The applicant must have a valid Indian passport with a minimum of 6 months of validity.

  • An applicant can not be employed or engaged in any work/activity restricted under the laws of Indonesia.

  • The applicant should have a confirmed offer letter from the Indonesian company/employer stating their designation in the company, details of the work they will do and the length of their employment in Indonesia.

Work Visa Guidelines and Requirements for Indonesian Employers

  • The Indonesian company/employer who is hiring you plays an important role in getting you an Indonesian work visa. Here are the step-by-step requirements that an Indonesian employer must fulfil in order to get you an Indonesia work visa:

  • Indonesian employers must first get approval from the Indonesian government to hire a foreign national, stating the reason for hiring a foreigner over an Indonesian citizen. For this, they need to prepare a Foreign Work Utilisation Plan known as RPTKA, a.k.a Rencana Penempatan Tenaga Kerja Asing.

  • The employer then needs to submit the RPTKA document to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) to seek their approval. Additionally, the employer also needs to pay a monthly amount of $100 to MOM for the Development Fund for Expatriate Workers Law (DKPTKA).

  • Then, employers need to apply for an Indonesia work permit visa for Indian citizens. This permit, known as the IMTA visa (Izin Mempekerjakan Tenaga Kerja), allows Indian employees to work in Indonesia.

  • The application for this permit is also given to MOM in Indonesia, and the employee needs to provide all their details and necessary documents to their employee to start the application process.

  • The employers then apply for the VITAS visa (Temporary/Limited Stay Visa) at the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM). Then, the BKPM issues a recommendation letter to the Indonesian Immigration Department.

  • Finally, employers need to provide the Indian employee with RPTKA and IMTA documents so that the employee can apply for the VITAS visa at the Indonesian embassy/Consulate in India. The VITAS visa allows Indian citizens to enter Indonesia.

Types of Indonesia Work Visa for Indian Citizens

There are primarily two categories of Indonesia work visas; these are as follows:

KITAS Visa: KITAS or Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas is a temporary stay permit issued through a local immigration office by the Immigration Directorate General in Indonesia. However, before getting a KITAS in Indonesia, the applicant must get a VITAS, which is an entry visa issued by the Indonesian Embassy/Consulate in India.

KITAP Visa: KITAP or Kartu Izin Tinggal Tetap is a permanent stay visa issued only if the candidate has been issued an ITAS visa for three consecutive years.

Remember that these visas will be issued to you after you have entered Indonesia. To enter Indonesia, you need to get a VITAS visa. Once you enter Indonesia with a VITAS visa, the Immigration Department will issue you an KITAS visa (Temporary Stay Permit).

Documents Required for Indonesia Work Visa Process

Certain documents are required by Indian citizens to be presented in order to get an Indonesia work visa; these documents include:

  • Original Indian passport with a validity of at least 6 months

  • Duly filled and signed visa application form

  • Recent passport-size photograph

  • Offer letter from the hiring company in Indonesia

  • Proof of identification (Aadhar card, PAN card, voter ID card)

  • Proof of Nationality (Aadhar card, voter ID card, PAN card)

  • Confirmed one-way plane ticket details

  • Proof of accommodation in Indonesia (rental agreement)

Indonesia Work Visa Process for Indian Citizens

Indonesia's work visa procedure mainly involves participation from Indonesian employers. The Indian employee only needs to apply for a VITAS (Temporary Stay Permit Visa) from their nearest Indonesian Embassy/Consulate.

However, the VITAS is also issued only after your employer has fulfilled the necessary requirements in Indonesia and provided you with copies of RPTKA and IMTA.

Indonesia Work Visa Fees for Indian Citizens

Official websites do not mention accurate Indonesia work visa fees for Indian citizens, as the amount of fees depends on various factors.

These factors include the visa charges by the embassy or agency you apply for a visa with, the number of entries, the purpose of the visit, additional charges, and more. You will get accurate information regarding visa fees only during the application process.

Indonesia Work Visa Processing Time

The approximate Indonesia work visa processing time is 2 months, during which the application and all the submitted documents are verified. However, this processing is subject to change in individual scenarios.

The submission of correct documents and faster verification by officials will reduce the time it takes to issue a visa. However, if an applicant submits the wrong documents or has any technical issues, then processing time can increase.

Indonesia Work Visa Check Online

Once your Indonesian work visa application is submitted, it will undergo several verification steps. It will take time to process and approve your application, but in the meantime, you can track your application status online on the official website of Immigration Visa. On the website, you need to provide the application number that you received during the Indonesia work visa process.

It is advised that you check your visa status at least after a week of application submission. It takes time for the officials to update your information online.
