There are some basic Mauritius work visa requirements that Indian applicants must fulfil in order to get their applications accepted. These requirements include:

  • Having a valid Indian passport with a validity of 6 months.

  • To be employed by any company in Mauritius, you must be of legal age, 18 years or above.

  • You must possess the skills and academic qualifications required by the Mauritius employer to satisfy their employment requirements.

  • You cannot be engaged or involved in any activity of employment that is prohibited in Mauritius.

  • You must have a confirmed job offer letter and employment contract as evidence of your engagement with the Mauritius employer.

Work Visa Guidelines and Requirements for Mauritius Employers

There are specific requirements that Mauritius employers must fulfil for hiring foreign employees. These include:

  • The companies should first obtain the permission in principle and then apply for a work permit for employees.

  • Before hiring any foreign employee, the Mauritius employer must ensure that the employee meets all the requirements, such as age, experience, health clearance, etc.

  • The employer needs to submit lodging and accommodation permits for the foreign employees before they reach Mauritius and start their work.

  • The employer company needs to submit a duly vetted copy of the employment contract by the Labour Division of the MLIRET or other documentary evidence.

  • Mauritius has a minimum wage policy; it is the duty of the Mauritius employer they follow this policy and pay foreign employees adequate wages as per their position.

  • Mauritius employers are required to make contributions toward the National Pension Fund and National Savings Fund on behalf of their employees. The contribution amounts are deducted from the employee’s salary and forwarded to the respective funds.

Types of Mauritius Employment Visa/Permits for Indian Nationals

Three major categories of work visas are available for foreign citizens who want to work and live in Mauritius. These work visa types are:

Work Permit: It is issued to individual foreign employees who want to work for Mauritius companies in the country. A work permit is issued after the individual gets an employment contract from the Mauritius employer and other relevant permits.

Occupation Permit: An occupation permit is a combination of work and residence permits that allows foreign nationals to work and live in Mauritius. However, this Mauritius work visa permit is only issued to individuals falling into these categories: self-employed, investors and sponsored professionals.

Residence Permit: Individuals looking to work in Mauritius can only enter the country if they have a Residence Permit and a Work Permit issued by the Passport Immigration Office and the Ministry of Labour, Human Resource Development and Training, respectively.

Mauritius Work Visa for Indians Application Process

Step 1: Visit the official Mauritius Business Licencing Platform website.

Step 2: On the homepage, select the option of “Register” to create an account on the page to proceed further with the application.

Step 3: After your registration is completed, you will be back to the homepage of the website.

Step 4: Now, click on the “Apply for Permit” option.

Step 5: Here, you will find various permit options to apply for. You need to select “Work & Live” and then, under it, click on “Apply” against the Work Permit option.

Step 6: Next, you need to fill in your requested details and upload documents. Make sure to read the instructions carefully before completing the application.

Step 7: After completing the application you need to make payment of the application fees.

Step 8: Finally, when the application is submitted and payment has been made, you need to wait till your application gets processed.

Mauritius Work Visa Fees for Indian Citizens

Paying Mauritius work visa or permit fees for Indian citizens is mandatory in order to proceed with the application process. Employers must pay a visa processing fee of ₹700 for each work permit application. Moreover, they must pay a visa permit fee for various employee positions hired within a fixed time frame.

Mauritius Work Visa Processing Time

Once you submit your Mauritius work visa or permit application, it goes through various verification steps, where your documents are checked. If you submit all the documents correctly, the whole processing time takes around 1 to 2 weeks.
